Gais discovered an unfamiliar village beyond the edge of the forest.
The wooden fence was embedded with doors and broken cart wheels taken from other villages. Each house was different. Some buildings were built of stone, while others were constructed by weaving together plundered wood and animal bones. Rusty weapons and torn flags hung from every roof, and in the center of the village stood a granary piled high with looted goods.
They took what belonged to others and made it their own territory. They raided other places, drove out the survivors, and used what they gained to expand their own villages.
Gaisga looked at the village with his spear raised.
A nature of coveting others’ possessions. Treating what has been taken as their own and trampling elsewhere to protect it.
The Nymph Faires also harbored resentment and justified the massacre. They used the things they had suffered in the past as a reason to return the pain they had endured to others. As if to say, “Die more,” they continued their revenge until the opponent collapsed.
Of course, the fact that humans have killed the most other humans has not changed. It was an undeniable tragedy. However, the monsters before their eyes were no exception to that vicious cycle.
Living by taking from others, they grit their teeth and resist the moment they are taken from.
Gais shifted his gaze toward the inside of the village.
"Now even the monsters are biting us and trying to drive us out
At that moment, a small shadow moved across the fence.
The Redcap marksman, wearing a blood-stained cap, drew his crossbow. The goblin archers beside them also drew their bows. From behind, arsonists carrying oil barrels and goblins prepared with flaming arrows moved in unison.
The war drums fell.
Ding!
Blazing arrows flew through the darkness of the forest. The embers clung to the grass and branches, and black smoke spread along the village fence. Then the Red Cap bomb throwers threw bombs filled with metal fragments. The goblin explosives workers set off explosives from above the warehouse and in the crevices between rocks, still holding onto their flints.
Gais did not back down.
A blue flash shot from the tip of the spear. As he thrust his spear, the electric shockwave surged straight out, sweeping through the crossbowmen on the fence. He tilted his shield toward the flying flaming arrows. A pure white light spread out before the shield, forming a solid barrier. The flaming arrows deflected off the light, and the bomb fragments scattered in all directions, unable to break through the barrier.
The goblin shield soldiers advanced, interlocking their small metal shields. In the gap, spearmen thrust their spears, while soldiers wielding medium crossbows targeted the gaps in Gaisuga's armor from behind.
Gais went forward, lowering the barrier.
The spear swung low. The shields in the front row were pushed aside, and the following spear thrusts pierced the gaps in the shield wall. Gaisga spun his spear and knocked away the twin axe-wielding soldiers charging from the side. Before he could swing the axe again, the tip of the spear pierced the seam of the armor.
The Redcap Twin Sword Soldiers charged from both flanks. Short blades flashed in succession, but Gaisga blocked one attack with a shield and struck the other wrist with a spear. He immediately twisted his body and thrust the spear. A chain handler threw a chain from behind, but Gaisga drew his spear, wrapped it around, and pulled it with all his might. The chain catcher lost his balance and was pulled forward.
At that moment, the masked clown burst out into a black mist.
My vision became as hazy as ink. Between the smoke, the Redcap Butcher’s giant cleaver plunged down. Gaisa held the shield at an angle and deflected the blade. The ground gave way from the impact, but he was already diving under the opponent's side. Changdae struck the butcher's torso, and the following spear-wielder broke the arm holding the massive weapon.
The ambushers emerged from the crevices in the rocks, camouflaged in dirt and moss. The diggers tried to retreat through the underground passage. The fierce beasts unleashed by the hunting dog handler crouched low and charged at them.
A pure white light radiated from Gaisuga's hand.
As the wavelength of light traveled through the ground, the surrounding shadows and mist were pushed away. The hidden Red Caps were revealed, and the goblins emerging from the ground also froze in their movements. Gais didn't miss the opportunity. The current surged out from the tip of the spear, sweeping away the ambushed soldiers.
However, the village's attacks did not stop.
The Red Cap arsonists smashed oil bottles and threw flaming iron rods. The flames spread beyond the fence to the edge of the forest. Goblin sorcerers shook their bone ornaments and emitted black smoke, while the goblin engineers rotated movable crossbows connected by pulleys to change the direction of their fire.
Gais raised his spear to block the spinning crossbow's attack and thrust his palm forward.
A pure white light spread out. The black smoke surged away, and the flying arrows crashed to the ground upon hitting the barrier of light. He swung his spear before the light had even vanished. A flash split from the tip of the spear and burned the mounting of the portable crossbow. The pulley broke, and a heavy block of iron fell to the ground.
At that moment, a huge sound of footsteps came from inside the village.
The mountain troll lifted the boulder with both hands. As the rock flew in, Gaisa dodged to the side. The rocks crashed into the ground, shattering the fence. The troll immediately threw a huge punch. Gais raised his shield to deflect the impact and used the recoil to leap forward. The spear pierced the troll's thick skin.
The swamp troll stretched out its long arms to grab Gaisuga's leg. The mud and aquatic plants clinging to the body swayed wetly. Gaisa struck out with his spear and sent a current through it. As the troll's massive body shook in spasms, he drew his spear and charged at the next enemy.
The cave troll struck the ground with a giant club. A shockwave cracked the village’s stone floor. Gais lowered his body to avoid the impact and then lunged the spear to block the troll's attack. Before the club could come down again, the tip of the spear pierced the arm, and the following electric shock shook the massive body.
The ice-ice troll opened its mouth and exhaled a frozen breath. Frost spread across the ground, and the air froze sharply. Gais spread light before the shield to block the cold. At the same time, a cold wind rose from the other hand. Ice shards settled in the air and rained down on the ice troll. The moment the troll covered its face with its arm, Gaisga thrust it forward like a spear, breaking the balance of its massive body.
As the volcanic troll approached, red heat flowed through the cracked skin. Hot rocks and fireballs flew in all directions. Gais charged forward, parrying the fireball with his shield. The heat heated the armor, but the current gathered at the tip of the spear struck the Volcanic Troll’s body. As lightning pierced through the split skin, the troll staggered backward, swinging its massive arms.
The Thorn Troll spun its body, revealing the bone spines protruding from its back and shoulders. Gaisga withstood the spinning attacks, using his shield. The impact traveled through his arm, but he did not flinch. I swung my spear low to strike the troll’s legs, then lifted the tip upward the moment the opponent lost balance.
The crustacean troll charged straight at them, clad in a shell as hard as a mineral. The Gais's spear scratched its scutes, sparking flames. The tough shell did not break easily.
Gais did not lower the spear.
He unleashed a series of spear thrusts, finding the cracks in the armor. A flash exploded at the tip of the spear, and the current flowed inward through the crack. The moment the troll raised his arm to strike, Gaisa dodged the attack with his shield, turned his body, and thrust his spear again. The massive body shook heavily as it knelt.
The village soldiers began to tremble.
But Commander Redcap did not back down. Dressed in dark crimson armor, he raised a massive battle axe. As whistles and hand signals continued, the Red Caps regrouped. Captain Goblin also charged his soldiers, wielding a broad axe. Flame arrows and bombs rained down again, and the remaining trolls swarmed in front of the collapsed fence.
Gais raised his shield.
A dazzling white light spread out and enveloped him. The pouring flaming arrows were blocked by light, and fragments of the bombs were hurled in all directions. He advanced forward while maintaining the barrier of light. Electric sparks flashed continuously at the tip of the spear, and his attacks never ceased.
Commander Redcap swung his axe.
Gaisa struck the axe blade with his shield and thrust out his spear. As the corps commander twisted his body to evade the attack, Changdae struck his armor. Gais immediately retrieved the spear and stabbed again, while the corps commander raised a massive axe and struck repeatedly. Flames shot up every time the metals collided.
Gais deflected the final axe attack with his shield, and the moment the opponent's balance collapsed, he plunged the tip of his spear deep into the air. The corps commander's axe fell from his hand.
Captain Goblin ambushed from the side. The broad axe aimed at Gaisuga's back, but he turned his body and thrust in his shield. The axe struck the shield and was thrown away. The following spear strike hit the captain's armor, and the shockwave from the spear's tip swept through the surrounding soldiers.
The sound of the war drums ceased.
The flames were still burning the village roofs, but the attacks by the monsters no longer continued in unison. The Redcaps pushed each other back between the collapsed formations, while the goblins, clutching their weapons, looked around the shattered crossbows and burning storerooms. The trolls’ massive bodies could no longer block the way.
Gais didn't slinging the spear over his shoulder. Leaning his spearhead lower, he scanned inside the village. Buildings piled up with stolen goods, weapons brought from elsewhere, and warehouses filled with loot were collapsing in the flames.
He looked at the scene for a moment.
The foundations they had built by taking others’ things were collapsing just the same way they had been seized.
Gais didn't stay any longer. Holding the spear close, I passed through the village and headed beyond the forest. A fire blazed behind him, and the smoke stretched long toward the darkening sky
