The pair both said sorry immediately and issued further apologies later in the drivetime programme broadcast yesterday.
George Michael spent the second hour of the show as a co-host with DJ Chris Evans and the pair chatted about various topics between the music.
At one point the singer, who is a car fanatic, was asked why he has never appeared on Top Gear as the "star in a reasonably-priced car".
Believing there would be an automatic delay on his words, he replied: "Other than the fact I'd be afraid of coming last in that fxxxxx..."
Evans quickly interrupted to apologise, before informing Michael there was in fact no delay on the show.
The DJ said: "George is so relaxed and we do apologise for that - we didn't mean to offend anyone."
"I'm sorry everyone," added Michael.
Later on in the show - which is broadcast on weekdays between 5.05pm and 7pm - Evans said sorry again while Michael said:
"I sincerely apologise."
"I use that word far too readily," he added. "It's because I know you so well, Chris."
At the end of the programme, Evans signed off with: "Once again we apologise for some colourful language."
A BBC spokesman said: "In line with BBC policy, apologies were immediately made and both George and Chris apologised again later in the show."
