“Aesop’s Fables”
John Lee
Written by Aesop
Publisher Oxford
This book has a lot of fables. While reading them, I found that some of them are really vain. They don’t have any lessons but just stories. However, most of them are really good fables that give valuable lessons. For instance, when people saw a camel for the first time, they were afraid and so they ran away. However, they later found some good natures upon it and the people let their children ride on it. This fable teaches us that appearance doesn’t decide one’s character. People usually judge a person just with his or her appearance. However, we should not do it. I think it’s really right and I was so surprised because this fable was written long ago and people in that time also judged people with their appearance.
One fable I found in this book was really cool. Aesop was walking in the street and he was called by a drunken bitch and so he told her to buy some wheat for her mouth. I think it’s really critical to prostitutes. They are also humans who are working but I think Aesop wanted to say some condemnations and advices to them. I also think what Aesop wrote is right but in my opinion, it could be hurts to prostitutes because they actually don’t want to sell their bodies to men but they have some private things which make them do so. I think this fable is not a good one for prostitutes.
After I read this book, I tried to ask myself, “What advantages does fable have?” I think there are a lot.
First, most fables are quite short but have very valuable lessons. Actually, I don’t like to read something because books are really boring for me. However, this book, Aesop’s fables, has short stories. So I was not much bored when I read them.
Second, most fables were written by Aesop who lived in an ancient era and that’s why we can get wisdom that could be got hard now in this world from him. One thing that is marvelous is that Aesop was an ancient man but he introduces some cases which are even happening now in this society.
