누가23:44

예수께서 십자가에서 죽은 사건은 단지 한 영웅적인 인물의 죽음이 아니라 인류 전체를 위한 구속 사건입니다. 그의 죽음은 육신의 고통을 넘어서 죄와 죽음에 대한 승리를 의미합니다. 예수님의 죽음에 어떤 반응들이 있었는가? 십자가가 우리에게 주는 희망은 무엇인가? 공주야! 잔인한 달 4월 사방에 어둠이 깔리고 예수님은 무력하게 십자가에서 돌아가셨다. 모든 이가 슬픔과 절망에 풀이 죽어 있다. 단지 어둠의 영역에 속한자만 쾌재를 부를 뿐이다. 예수님의 십자가는 실패했고 사탄과 어둠이 이긴 걸까?

인자이신 예수님은 자신의 영혼을 아버지의 손에 부탁하는 마지막 순간까지 묵묵히 순종의 길을 걸어오셨다. 아버지의 때를 이루면서, 아버지의 뜻에 순종하면서, 아버지의 손을 의지하면서 사셨고 또 죽으셨다. 인자이신 예수님은 아버지께로 가는 유일한 길이며, 우리가 평생 따라가야 할 길이다. 유대 백성과 지도자들은 예수님을 ‘죄인’으로 매도하여 십자가에 못 박았지만, 예수님의 죽음을 지켜본 ‘이방인’ 백부장은 그분을 ‘의인’으로 고백하며 하나님께 영광을 돌린다.

원수를 위한 예수님의 기도에, 십자가의 강도처럼, 하나님께서 응답하신 것이다. 재판 과정에서 빌라도가 공언한 세 번의 무죄 판결, 백부장의 고백, ‘의로운 요셉의 무덤에 장사 된 일 등은 예수님의 무죄를 증명하고, 그분이 세상을 구원하고 다스릴 ’하나님의 아들‘이요 ’인자‘이심을 보여준다. 이제 곧 부활을 통해 하나님은 그 아들의 이름 앞에 모든 이들이 무릎을 꿇고 ’주‘로 시인하게 하실 것이다(빌2:10, 11).

Like the intensity of the cross, God responded to Jesus' prayer for the enemy. 예수를 죽인 자의 입에서 십자가 위의 예수가 무죄라는 고백이 나오게 하신 것은 그 승리가 시작 되었음을 보여준다. 하나님의 나라를 기다리던 아리마대 요셉도 빌라도에게 가서 예수님의 시신을 요구하며 준비해둔 자신의 무덤에 장사한다. 빌라도가 예수의 무죄를 확신하고 있었다는 사실을 모르는 요셉에게 이 요구는 불온한 인물, 예수와 같은 부류로 오해받을 수 있는 위험을 불사한 용기 있는 요구다.
