Prepositions certainly contribute to the meaning of the phrasal verb, but you cannot use prepositions just based on their meanings and create your own phrasal verbs, because the linguistic convention also plays a great role in making phrasal verbs. So you will just have to learn these verbs one by one and become familiar with the convention of English.

i appreciate your reply...as expected...to be familliar with prepositions...just to read lots of books..and then to follow the convertion of English..
