Happy Monday! Today's English expression‎ is: rain check.  To take/have a rain check means to decline an offer now, suggesting you will accept it later (you don't want something now, but you will want it later).    Here is an example conversation:  Person A:  Erin, I'm cooking dinner for everyone Thursday evening so you're more than welcome to come over. Person B:  Ummm, I have to work that night, but can I have a rain check? Person A:  Oh sure.  I'll be cooking again in two weeks for all my friends.  You can come over then.   Rain check is also used this way: In a store, a rain check is a promise to a customer that a sale item that is out of stock or sold out may be purchased later at the sale price.  Example: Customer:  There are no more of these sale towels on the shelves.                    Will you be getting more of these towels in? Clerk       :  Oh, yes, we will get more of those towels in next week. Customer:  But, the sale ends today! Clerk       :  It's okay, I'll give you a rain check so you can come back next week and                   purchase the towels for the sale price.
