6.Heaven and Water Hexagram : Song / Conflict.
▣[Top Nine] : Even if bestowed a leather belt,
it will be stripped three times before the morning ends.
[Explanation]
[Top Nine] means that even if one happens to be bestowed a grand leather belt,
it will be stripped away three times before the morning court session ends.
[Commentary]
When Line 2 and Line 4 attempt to claim [Six in the Third Position], its pair [Top Nine],
driven by Qian(strenght), pushes the litigation through to the end and wins.
However, though one may win the conflict and gain the honor of being bestowed
a grand belt [或錫之鞶蔕,혹석지반체], that honor will not endure for long.
Perhaps in short time, the humiliation of having what was gained stripped away
three times will arrive
This is because what is obtained through litigation is hardly worthy of respect.
Confucius said of this, 'Receiving official robes through litigation is also not worthy
'Receiving robes through conflict shows a lack of anything deserving respect' ]".
Regarding the humiliation of having one's leather belt stripped three times despite
winning the lawsuit, Dongpo commented as follows :
"This is precisely the way to bring an end to conflict.
If the victor considers the win great and boasts of their ability,
while the loser regards defeat as disgrace and falls into malice,
the calamity of conflict will never cease.
Therefore, having the victor's belt stripped away and allowing the defeated to settle
in righteousness to avert disaster is what truly beinga conflict to an end."
All of this because the Song Hexagram(訟卦,송괘 - Conflict) transformed
into the Kun Hexagram(澤水困卦,택수곤괘 - Oppression / Exhaustion) .
