In the 2009 World Haedong Kumdo Championship,
only two foreign participants were interviewed on Korean television.
Today, I discovered that those two people were none other than Stephen and Angela—
a fact that I had no memory of until now, and it truly surprised me.

Back then, they were simply part of the large group of participants,
and I did not recognize anything special at that moment.
But time reveals what we could never have predicted.

Stephen is now the national representative of Haedong Kumdo in South Africa, and Angela has become his wife, raising their two children together.

Tomorrow, I will depart for South Africa once again. Moments like this remind me how mysterious human connections truly are — how relationships form and grow in ways far beyond our plans, guided quietly through the passage of time.

《2009년의 두 얼굴 — 16년 뒤에 밝혀진 놀라운 인연》

2009년 세계해동검도대회에서 외국인 인터뷰는 유독 두 사람만 이루어졌는데,
그 두 사람이 바로 스테판과 안젤라였다는 사실을 오늘에서야 확인하고
나 또한 놀라움을 감출 수가 없다.

당시에는 그저 수많은 참가자 중 한 명으로 보였기에 내 기억 속에 뚜렷하게 남아 있지 않았다.

하지만 세월이 지나 보니,
지금 스테판은 남아공 해동검도 대표가 되어 있고, 안젤라는 그의 부인이 되어 두 자녀를 함께 키우고 있다.

이제 나는 다시 남아공으로 향한다.
인연이란 참으로 묘해서, 인간의 계산이나 기억을 훨씬 넘어 시간 속에서 스스로 길을 열어 간다는 것을 새삼 느낀다.
