SEOUL, South Korea -- Boston Red Sox reliever Byung-hyun Kim was questioned by police Wednesday about allegations he assaulted a South Korean newspaper photographer.
Kim refused comment as he entered the police station, where he was swarmed by dozens of reporters and fans. Red Sox spokesman Kevin Shea in Boston said the team is looking into the matter.
The 24-year-old South Korean pitcher is accused of hitting Lee Kun, a photographer for the Goodday sports newspaper, and breaking his $10,800 camera Saturday outside an indoor gym in Seoul.
In a letter on his Web site, Kim acknowledged taking the camera and throwing it to the ground, but denied hitting the photographer. He said the photographer kept taking pictures despite his repeated pleas to stop.
Last month, Kim apologized for making an obscene gesture in front of booing fans when he was introduced before a home game against Oakland.
