ABC NEWS STORY 7: LIFE LESSONS

GRIFFIN MANDELBAUM (STUDENT): 레서피를 만들 때 마다, 그녀가 조금씩 넣는 것이 있는데요, 바로 사랑이에요.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 그것들을 모두 잘 섞으면 우리 나라 최고령 전임 교사인 여성이 나옵니다.

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): 그럼요.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 엄마 세금을 대신 신고하다가 딸이 발견한 사실.

AGNES ARAKELIAN (DAUGHTER): 아직도 *W-2를 엄마가 갖고 계시냐고 세무서 직원들이 묻는 거에요. 그래서 그렇다고 했더니, 언제 태어나셨냐고 그래서 1914년이라고 그랬죠.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 아그네스는 대공황 당시 10대 청소년 이었으며, 남편이 2차 세계 대전에 참전하자 아이들을 혼자 키웠는데, 육아는 아그네스가 아주 잘 하는 것이었습니다.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 97의 연세에도, 아직도 풀타임으로 일하고 계시는데 비법 ‘재료’가 있다면 무엇일까요?

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): 그런 거 전혀 없구요, 그냥 나라서 그런 것이 아닐까 해요. 아이들하고 같이 요리하는 것이 너무 기다려지고요.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 아그네스는 흔들 의자 대신 ‘뉴 밸런스’신발을 마련했습니다.  

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): 운동화가 아주 좋아요.  “으깬 것을 곤죽으로 만드세요.” Sneakers are wonderful.  Mush smush.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): 아이들이 입는 앞 치마도 아그네스가 직접 만듭니다. 조리한대로 굽는 것도 직접 합니다. 아이들이 학교에서 입는 의상도 만들고요. 어쩌면 비결은, 항상 바쁜 것, 목적 의식일지도 모릅니다.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS (ABC NEWS): Finally tonight, they just keep at it.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Betty White still getting laughs at 89.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Warren Buffett running one of the world's biggest businesses at 80.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS : And New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg still going strong at 87.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: But Linsey Davis found a school teacher from Senator Lautenberg's state who's got them all beat.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): Growing old gracefully is nothing new to Agnes Zhelesnik.  She's had 97 years to learn.

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): Today we are making banana bread.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): Granny is what everyone calls her and this is how she spends most of her time.

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): Put in a teaspoon of vanilla in here.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): A dash of energy, a pinch of persistence and an extra dollop of work ethic.

GRIFFIN MANDELBAUM (STUDENT): Whenever she makes a recipe, she adds one little touch which is love to it.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): Mix it all together and you have the woman who's believed to be the nation's oldest full-time teacher.

AGNES ARAKELIAN (DAUGHTER): You ready to work today, Gram?

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): I sure am.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): A discovery her daughter made when she recently filed her mother's taxes.

AGNES ARAKELIAN (DAUGHTER): They said, "She still has a W-2 form?"  I said, "Yes."  She said, "Well, when was she born?"  I said, "1914."

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): She was a teenager during the Great Depression, and when her husband went off to World War II, she took care of the kids, something she's become very good at.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): What's your secret ingredient at 97 years old, that you're still working full time?

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): I have no - it's just me I guess.  And I just look forward to cooking with the children.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): She's traded in a rocking chair for a pair of New Balance.

AGNES ZHELESNIK (TEACHER): Sneakers are wonderful.  Mush smush.

LINSEY DAVIS (ABC NEWS): The kids' aprons, she makes them.  The recipes, she bakes them.  The school costumes, she creates them.  Perhaps the secret, keeping busy, a sense of purpose.

2. to get laughs

대부분의 개그는 망가지면서 웃기는데, 내 캐릭터는 완전히 그 반대였죠.

12살짜리처럼 보이는 내가 아줌마 연기를 해 웃음거리가 되어 무대에서 내려왔어요. .

이 영화는 전혀 의도하지 않았는데 웃기는 그런 영화이다.

3. to go strong

공룡이 사라진 지는 이미 오래되었지만 상어들은 여전히 건재하다.

알콜 중독에 대한 인식이 서서히 확산되고 있음에도 불구하고, 한국의 음주 문화는 여전히 건재하다.

아무래도 외조부모께서 드시는 걸로 계속 먹어야 할 것 같아. 두분 다 아흔이 넘으셨는데도 정정하시거든.

그의 아버지는 94세의 나이에도 여전히 정정하시다.

4. to file

그 사건은 사상 최초로 제기된 성희롱 집단소송입니다.

우리 회사는 상급법원에 특허권 침해 소송을 냈다.

몇몇 대기업이 법정관리를 신청했다.

그는 차를 도난당한 후 보험 청구서를 제출했다.
