<P>One of the nations that has seen a significant increase in plastic and cosmetic surgery is Korea. Korean plastic surgery has been on the rise for several years, particularly in the younger age groups, ranging from teenagers to young adults. Among the various types of surgeries that exist, the most common Korean plastic surgery procedures undertaken by the nation's youth are blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, breast enlargement, and liposuction. Blepharoplasty in particular is one of the more popular procedures done by facial plastic surgeons in Korea. Bleppharoplasty refers to surgery done on the eyelids, which is typically done to enlarge the apperance of the eyes. The procedure involves making a small incision just above the eye, which creates and articifical double lid. There seems to be somewhat of an obsession among young Korean girls to have bigger eyes. The operation itself is fairly inexpensive in Korea, with facial plastic surgeons charging about $800 dollars for the procedure. Currently, many teenagers are requesting this particular type of Korean plastic surgery. In many cases, parents are now gifting their children with this kind of Korean plastic surgery as a graduation present. However, it is not uncommon to see teenagers as young as fourteen undergoing this procedure.<BR><BR>Though the current economic times in the country have seen a decline in patients visiting facial plastic surgeons for procedures, the fact that most of these procedures will be substantially less than in other countries, many people from various places in the world are now traveling to the East to undergo Korean plastic surgery procedures. Often times, the procedures themselves can be up to 50% less than in other nations, thus making Korea and other Asian cities a highly touted destination to undergo procedures by some of Korea's most talented and skilled facial plastic surgeons. However, Korean plastic surgery numbers still are relatively high, though they pale in comparison to those in the United States, as the number of such procedures in the United States is almost five times more than the number of plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures done in Korea. This is partly a result of the prominence of facial plastic surgeons and other plastic surgeons in America. Still, the fairly new Korean obsession with plastic surgery, particularly that of blepharoplasty, is still fairly prominent. The obsession seems to coincide with an overall feeling or desire to become more Westernized, both in mindset and physically. </P>
