Is Life a Destiny or an Accident?

In the movie 'Forrest Gump', there are two conflicting themes on life.

One of the life's theme is a 'Destiny' like a box of chocolate box.

The other one is an 'Accident' like a floating feather.

Dialogue between Forrest and his mom:

- What's the matter, Mama?

- I'm dying, Forrest. Come on in, sit down over here.

-Why are you dying, Mama?

- It's my time. It's just my time. Now, don't you be afraid, sweet heart.

  Death is just a part of life. Something we're all destined to do.

  I , I didn't know it but I was destined to be your mama. I did the best I could.

- You did good.

- Well, I happen to believe you make your own destiny.

  You have to do the best with what God gave you.

- What's my destiny, Mama?

- You're going to have to figure that out for yourself.

  Life is a box of chocolates. Forrest. you never know what you're going to get.

  I'll miss you. Forrest.

(*Mama always had a way of explaining things so I could understand them,

She had got the cancer and died on a Tuesday.)

Dialogue between Forrest and Jenny:

- It was nice, like before the sun goes to bed down on the bayou.

There were always a million sparkles on the water.

Like that mountain lake, it was so clean, Jenny,

it looked there were two skies one on top of the other.

And in the desert, when the sun comes up,

I couldn't tell where heaven stopped, and the earth began.

It was so beautiful.

- I wish I could have been there with you.

- You were.

- I love you. Forrest.

(Jenny died on a Saturday morning.)

Monologue of Forrest at the grave of Jenny:

- I had you place here under our tree. Mama always said that dying was a part of life.

…  I don't know if mama was right, or if it's lieutenant Dan. 

I don't know if we each have a destiny,

or if we're just floating around accidental-like on a breeze.

But i think maybe it's both.

Maybe both is happening at the same time.

But I miss you, Jenny.

If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.

마치 영화의 처음과 마지막 장면처럼

깃털 하나가  바람에 이리 저리 휘날려 다닙니다.

우리들의 삶처럼 현실적 운명과 우연의 깃털들이 서로 아우러져…

삶은  운명적인 요소 (life is a box of chocolate)뿐만 아니라

우연과 돌발적인 요소 ( floating  accidental-like on a breeze)도

함께 공존하는 것 같다는 말…

Life is a combination of both destiny and free will.
