Good evening everyone.  The Old Testament reading for our worship service on Sunday will be 1 Kings 2:1-4 and the New Testament reading is Matthew 15:1-14. The title of my sermon is “The Greatest Temptation” and the text for my sermon is 1 John 2:15-17. English vocabulary for my sermon: desire, lust, temptation, pride, and flesh. Shalom.

열왕기상 2장1~4절 

1 Kings 2:1-4 

1. 다윗이 죽을 날이 임박하매 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 명령하여 이르되

When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

2. 내가 이제 세상 모든 사람이 가는 길로 가게 되었노니 너는 힘써 대장부가 되고

“I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man,

3. 네 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지켜 그 길로 행하여 그 법률과 계명과 율례와 증거를 모세의 율법에 기록된 대로 지키라 그리하면 네가 무엇을 하든지 어디로 가든지 형통할지라

and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go

4. 여호와께서 내 일에 대하여 말씀하시기를 만일 네 자손들이 그들의 길을 삼가 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 진실히 내 앞에서 행하면 이스라엘 왕위에 오를 사람이 네게서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하신 말씀을 확실히 이루게 하시리라

and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’

마태복음 15장1~14절

Matthew 15:1-14

1. 그 때에 바리새인과 서기관들이 예루살렘으로부터 예수께 나아와 이르되

Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,

2. 당신의 제자들이 어찌하여 장로들의 전통을 범하나이까 떡 먹을 때에 손을 씻지 아니하나이다

“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They donʼt wash their hands before they eat!”

3. 대답하여 이르시되 너희는 어찌하여 너희의 전통으로 하나님의 계명을 범하느냐

Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?

4. 하나님이 이르셨으되 네 부모를 공경하라 하시고 또 아버지나 어머니를 비방하는 자는 반드시 죽임을 당하리라 하셨거늘

For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’

5. 너희는 이르되 누구든지 아버지에게나 어머니에게 말하기를 내가 드려 유익하게 할 것이 하나님께 드림이 되었다고 하기만 하면

But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’

6. 그 부모를 공경할 것이 없다 하여 너희의 전통으로 하나님의 말씀을 폐하는도다

they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

7. 외식하는 자들아 이사야가 너희에 관하여 잘 예언하였도다 일렀으되

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

8. 이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하되 마음은 내게서 멀도다

“ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

9. 사람의 계명으로 교훈을 삼아 가르치니 나를 헛되이 경배하는도다 하였느니라 하시고

They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ ”

10. 무리를 불러 이르시되 듣고 깨달으라

Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand.

11. 입으로 들어가는 것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이 아니라 입에서 나오는 그것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이니라

What goes into someoneʼs mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

12. 이에 제자들이 나아와 이르되 바리새인들이 이 말씀을 듣고 걸림이 된 줄 아시나이까

Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”

13. 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 심은 것마다 내 하늘 아버지께서 심으시지 않은 것은 뽑힐 것이니

He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.

14. 그냥 두라 그들은 맹인이 되어 맹인을 인도하는 자로다 만일 맹인이 맹인을 인도하면 둘이 다 구덩이에 빠지리라 하시니

Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

요한일서 2장15~17절 

John 2:15-17

15. 이 세상이나 세상에 있는 것들을 사랑하지 말라 누구든지 세상을 사랑하면 아버지의 사랑이 그 안에 있지 아니하니

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

16. 이는 세상에 있는 모든 것이 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 이생의 자랑이니 다 아버지께로부터 온 것이 아니요 세상으로부터 온 것이라

For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

17. 이 세상도, 그 정욕도 지나가되 오직 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거하느니라

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
