ISTD 모던 볼룸댄스의 역사

History

The elegance and style of the early 1900s were major factors in the development of ballroom dancing by the habituees of the smarter West End establishments. A chance meeting between one of the leading ladies of the time, Josephine Bradley, and a talented young American, GK Anderson, produced a partnership which provided the foundation for the English Style for which the ISTD is still world-renowned. Further developed by Phyllis Haylor and other famous names of the time, it is indeed fortunate that, under the leadership of Lady Humphries, they joined together to preserve the Style with examinations of standard to a set technique, and so the Modern Ballroom Dance Faculty of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing was born. When, under the guidance of a committee headed by Alex Moore, it was decided to write the Technique of Ballroom Dancing, the ISTD established itself as one of the leaders of a now virile profession, a position it has maintained since.

1900년대 초에는 우아함과 스타일이 세련된 런던의 서쪽지구 단골 손님들의 볼룸댄스 발전에서의 화두였다. 그 당시 신여성인 조세핀 브레들리와 재주있는 미국인 지케이 앤더슨씨가 파트너가 되어 회합을 가졌는데 이때 영국 스타일의 기초를 제공하게 되었다. 필리스 헤일 리가 감담 하였고 다행히도 험프리 여사의 주도로 표준 테크닉의 시험과 함께 스타일을 같이 만들었다. 이렇게 ISTD 모던 불룸댄스 지부가 만들어진 것이다. 알렉스 무어가 주도하여 테크닉 오브 볼룸댄스가 결정되었고 그때 이래로 한창 전성기를 누리는 전문직업의 선구자가 된 것이다.

Activities

The Imperial Dance and Dance Sport Faculties' Board guides the multi-faceted activities of this Faculty. An annual summer Congress presents new work and ideas coupled with refinements in the presentation of technique to the hundreds of professional teachers who regularly attend. Refresher courses are held throughout the country which ensure that first class tuition is available for those who not only wish to take advantage of the examination system but also for those seeking to improve their technique for social activities. Everyone, from the social dancer, keen amateur or aspiring professional, can measure their progress, assured in the knowledge that their assessment is in capable hands. As a further inducement to progress, the ISTD runs regular competitive events for the keen medallist. These enable students from various schools to compete against each other in a friendly fashion, and are extremely popular events with tremendous atmosphere. Competition ballroom dancing, both professional and amateur, has grown tremendously over the past two decades, and has become a worldwide activity. Top class teaching and coaching are necessary to attain the standards required in this field, and it is no surprise to find that many of our examiners and committee members travel the world to work with aspiring and existing champions.

활동

ISTD 댄스스포츠지부는 여러 면의 활동을 안내해준다. 매년 여름 열리는 콩그레스에서는 정기적으로 참가하는 수 백 명의 직업적 교사들에게 테크닉을 공개하면서 새로운 일과 아이디어를 제공한다. 연수과정은 전국적으로 이루어지며 최상급의 수업으로 시험제도의 장점을 원하는 사람이나  사회활동에서 테크닉을 발전시키려는 사람들에게 모두 확실하게 해준다. 사교로 추는 사람, 아마추어, 큰 뜻을 품은 프로들까지 모두 발전정도를 재 볼 수 있으며 평가의 지식에 확신을 가지게 된다. 더 진전할 동기 부여를 위해 ISTD는 정기적인 메달리스트이벤트를 운영한다. 이것은 아주 좋은 분위기에서 아주 인기 있는 이벤트로서 정감 있는 패션으로 각급학교에서 학생들이 대회를 치르게 한다. 아마추어와 프로 볼룸댄스는 지난 20년 동안 놀랄 만큼 성장했으며 전 세계적인 활동이 되었다. 이 방면에 최고 수준의 교사와 코치가 필요하며 현존 챔피언들과 열정을 가진 시험관과 회원들이 전 세계를 여행하는 것은 놀랄만한 일이 아니다.

Development

The ISTD is keenly aware of the importance of dance in the social structure of tomorrow. Continually increasing interest from young children has prompted us in the past to offer attainment awards for youngsters from an age as low as five years and this facility will be developed accordingly. With the present accent on fitness and the increase in longevity, more and more people of all age groups are finding a need to fill their leisure time in a healthy and enjoyable manner. In this respect, the benefits of dance for increasing friendship and well being are second to none, and all our services for the future will be geared to filling this need. A new dance, a new style, new music, all of our members will be kept abreast of developments through one of the leading dance organisations in the world, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

발전

ISTD는 미래의 사회적 구조에서 댄스의 중요성을 잘 알고 있다. 과거에 어린아이들의 지속적인 관심이 우리를 5살짜리어린이부터 달성한 상을 주는 것에 대해 독촉을 받고 그에 맞춰 편의를 제공하도록 개발할 것이다.  건강과 수명연장에 대한 현재의 주안점에 대해 모든 연령대의 사람들이 점점 더 즐기며 건강한 여가 수요를 채울 것을 찾고 있다. 이런 면에서 댄스의 이로운 점은 사람들을 가깝게 하고 웰빙에서도 타의 추종을 불허한다. 그래서 우리 미래의 서비스는 이 수요를 채워주려는 것이다. 새로운 춤, 새로운 스타일, 새로운 음악으로 ISTD가 전세계 선두의 댄스 기관으로 회원 전체가 발전에 동참할 것이다.
