Penang International Chess Festival 2022-Julius win 1st Best Board prize

Chess prodigy Julius ended 2022 on a high note recently!

Having participated in several tournaments in December 2022, Julius was crowned the champion in the Penang Under-17 Chess Championship 2022 and Penang Closed Chess Tournament 2022, beating some of the strongest Penang-based chess players. He then finished with a tie for third place overall in the Penang International Chess Festival 2022 – the highest finisher of Malaysian players and managed to draw with Grandmaster Priasmoro Novendra, the champion of the tournament. At the Penang Chess League 2022, Julius managed to win the 1st Best Board prize with a perfect 8 points out of 8, beating Grandmaster Villamayor Buenaventura from Singapore in the process.

Julius’ consistent performance in 2022 has earned him the state’s Excellence Award and his achievements will inspire other players to strive for greatness and push themselves to be the best they can be!
