Bible Reading - Acts 17:1~11

17:1 When they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, 

그들이 암비볼리와 아볼로니아를 통과하여 지나 가서

they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.

유대인의 회당이 있던 데살로니가로 갔다.

17:2 As his custom was, 관례대로

Paul went into the synagogue, 바울은 회당 안으로 들어갔고 

and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

17:3 explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead.

그리고 그는 세 안식일에 걸쳐 성경을 근거로 그리스도가 고난을 받고 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나야 했음을 설명하고 증명함으로 그들과 토론했다.

"This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ," he said.

그는 "내가 너희에게 선포하고 있는 이 예수가 바로 그 그리스도이시다."라고 말했다.

17:4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, 

유대인들 중에 몇몇이 설득되어 바울과 실라에게 합류했으며

as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.

하나님을 경외하는 많은 그리스 사람들과 적지 않은 탁월한 여성들도 그렇게 했다.

17:5 But the Jews were jealous; 그러나 유대인들이 질투했다.

so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace,  formed a mob and started a riot

in the city.

그래서 그들은 시장에서 불량배들을 모아 폭도들을 결성하고 도시에서 폭동을 일으켰다.

They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.

그들은 바울과 실라를 찾아내어 군중 앞으로 끌어내려고 야손의 집으로 달려갔다.

17:6 But when they did not find them, 그러나 그들을 찾지 못했을 때에 

they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting:

그들은 야손과 몇몇 다른 형제들을 그 도시의 관원들 앞에 끌어내어 외치기를 

 "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,

세계 곳곳에서 문제를 일으키고 있는 이 사람들이 지금 여기에 왔고

17:7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house.

야손은 그의 집으로 그들을 맞아들였다.

They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus."

그들은 모두 예수라 하는 또 다른 왕이 있다고 말하며 가이사의 칙령을 거스르고 있다.

17:8 When they heard this, 그들이 이것을 듣고서 

 the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil.

그 군중과 도시의 관리들은 혼란 속으로 빠져들었다.

17:9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.

그런 다음 그들은 야손의 일행에게 보석금을 내게 하고 그들을 풀어주었다.

17:10 As soon as it was night, 밤이 되자마자,

the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea.

형제들은 바울과 실라를 베뢰아로 보냈다.

On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.

거기에 도착하여, 그들은 유대인의 회당으로 갔다.

17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, 

이제 베뢰아 사람들은 데살로니가 사람들보다 더 고귀한 성품이 있어서 

for they received the message with great eagerness 

그들은 큰 열정으로 그 메시지를 받아들였고 

and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

바울이 말한 것이 사실인지 알아 보려고 매일 성경을 상고했다.
