Welcome to the new series of BTE, with a new text. For the new series, we will take essential and instructive passages from Covey's Seven Habits, focusing on each of the seven habits.

Compared with the Huntington text, you will find that Covey's text has a more casual and informal style and uses many creative expressions. The difference is that whereas Huntington describes facts with an academic aloofness and formality, Covey tries to reach out, persuade, and change people.
<br>

Unlike the previous series, I will provide some contexts around the task sentence so that you are contextually prepared to write the task sentence.

As I always stress, in putting the Korean translation back to English, please keep in mind that Korean and English sentence structures do not always converge, and so do not automatically copy the Korean structure into English. Also, choose words that best express the full meaning and intention of the text.

Habit 1: Be proactive
<br>

Context: The contrast between "proactivity" and "reactivity" constitutes an important framework of Covey's thought. I will follow the current Korean translation and use the terms "주도적" for "proactive" and "반사적" for "reactive". The contrast lies in whether we take responsibility for our own lives or we let our conditions control our lives.

Covey first explains what proactivity is:

"It (proactivity) means more than merely taking initiative. It means that as human beings, we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our decision, not our conditions. We can subordinate our feelings to values." (Seven Habits, p. 71)

Then, he explains what reactivity is (Task sentence):
