This bread I break was once the oat,           내가 쪼개는 이 빵은 일찍이는 연맥이었다.
This wine upon a foreign tree                     이국의 나무에서 핀 이 포도주는
Plunged in its fruit;                                  그 열매 속에 파고들었다.
Man in the day or wind at night                  낮에는 사람이 밤이면 바람이
Laid the crops low, broke the grape's joy.    곡식을 휘어 넘기고, 포도의 기쁨을 깨뜨렸다.

Once in this time wine the summer blood      일찍이 이 포도주 속에서 여름의 피는
Knocked in the flesh that decked the vine,    포도 덩굴을 장식한 살 속으로 흘러들었다.
Once in this bread                                   일찍이 이 빵 속에서
The oat was merry in the wind;                   연맥은 즐거이 바람에 흔들렸다.
Man broke the sun, pulled the wind down.    사람은 태양을 부수고, 바람을 끌어내렸다.

This flesh you break, this blood you let        당신이 떼는 이 살, 당신이 혈관 속에서
Make desolation in the vein,                      황량하게 하는 이 피,
Were oat and grape                                 그것은 관능의 뿌리와 수액에서 태어난
Born of the sensual root and sap;               연맥과 포도였다.
My wine you drink, my bread you snap.       당신이 마시는 내 포도주, 당신이 씹는 내 빵은.
