Bible Reading - Acts 17:23~34

17:23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.

내가 주위를 둘러보며 너희가 숭배하는 물건들을 자세히 살펴보니, ‘알지 못하는 신에게’라는 글귀가 새겨진 제단을 발견했다.

Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

이제 너희가 알지 못하는 것으로 숭배하는 것을 내가 너희에게 선포하겠다.

17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.

세상과 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 만드신 하나님은 하늘과 땅의 주님이시며 그리고 사람의 손으로 세운 신전에 살고 계시지 않으신다. 

17:25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, 

그리고 그는 마치 그가 어떤 것이 필요한 것처럼 사람의 손에 의하여 섬김을 받지 않으신다. 

because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

왜냐하면 그분 자신이 모든 사람들에게 생명과 호흡과 그 밖에 모든 것을 주시기 때문이다. 

17:26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; 

하나님은 한 사람에게서 모든 민족을 만드시고 그들이 온 땅에 거주하게 하셨고

and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

그리고 그는 그들에게 정해진 시간들과 그들이 살아야 할 정확한 장소를 정하셨다.

17:27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him,

하나님께서는 사람들이 그분을 찾고, 어쩌면 그분께 손을 내밀어 그분을 발견할 수 있도록 이 일을 행하셨다.

though he is not far from each one of us. 비록 그가 우리 각자로부터 멀리 있지 않으시지만

17:28 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' 

그분 안에서 우리는 살고 움직이고 우리의 존재를 가진다.

As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

너희 자신들의 시인들 중에 몇몇이 "우리는 그의 후손들이다."라고 말했던 것처럼 

17:29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill.

그러므로 우리는 하나님의 후손들이기 때문에, 신적인 존재가 금이나 은이나 돌이나 사람의 설계나 기술로 만들어진 형상과 같다고 우리는 생각지 말아야 한다.

17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

과거에는 하나님께서 그러한 무지를 눈감아 주셨지만, 이제는 모든 사람에게 회개하라고 명령하신다.

17:31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed.

하나님께서는 자신이 택하신 사람을 통해 세상을 공의로 심판하실 날을 정하셨다.

He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

그는 그를(택하신 사람을) 죽은 자들로부터 일으키심으로 모든 사람들에게 이 증거를 주셨다. 

17:32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, 

그들이 죽은 자들의 부활에 대해 들었을 때에

some of them sneered(비웃었다), 그들 중에 일부는 비웃었으나

but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject."

다른 사람들은 "우리는 이 주제에 대해 다시 너에게 듣기를 원한다."고 말했다.

17:33 At that, Paul left the Council. 그러자 바울은 공의회를 떠났다.

17:34 A few men became followers of Paul and believed. 

소수의 사람들이 바울의 추종자들이 되어 믿었다.

Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.

그들 중에는 아레오바고의 의원이었던 디오니시우스와 다마리스라는 여성, 그리고 다른 여러 사람들이 있었다.
