19:11 God did extraordinary miracles through Paul,
19:12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

하나님께서 바울을 통해 놀라운 기적들을 행하셨는데, 심지어 그가 몸에 지녔던 손수건이나 앞치마를 병자들에게 가져가기만 해도 병이 낫고 악귀가 떠나갔다.

19:13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed.

돌아다니며 악귀를 쫓아내던 어떤 유대인들이 귀신 들린 사람들에게 주 예수의 이름을 부르며 악귀를 쫓아내려 했다.

They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out."

그들은 "바울이 전파하는 예수의 이름으로 명하노니, 나오라"고 말하곤 했다.

19:14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.

유대인 제사장인 스게와의 일곱 아들들도 이렇게 하고 있었다.

19:15 One day the evil spirit answered them, 어느날 악령이 그들에게 대답했다.

 "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

"예수를 내가 알고, 바울에 대해서도 알지만 너는 누구냐?"

19:16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. 

그때 악령에 들린 그 사람이 그들 위로 뛰어 올라 그들 모두를 힘으로 압도했다.

He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

그는 그들을 그렇게 두들겨 패주었고, 그들은 그 집에서 벌거벗겨져 피흘리며 도망쳐 나왔다.

19:17 When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, 

이 소식이 에베소에서 살고 있는 유대인들과 그리스인들에게 알려지기 시작했을 때,

they were all seized with fear, 그들은 두려움에 사로잡혔고

and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. 주 예수의 이름이 크게 존중을 받았다.

19:18 Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.

믿게 된 사람들 중 다수가 이제 나아와 자신들의 악한 행위를 공개적으로 자백했다.

19:19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly.

마술을 행하던 많은 사람들이 자신들의 두루마리를 한데 모아 사람들 앞에서 불태웠다.

When they calculated the value of the scrolls, 그들이 그 두루마리의 가치를 세어보니

the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. 전부 오만 드라크마나 되었다.

19:20 In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

이와 같이 주의 말씀이 널리 퍼져 나가고 그 능력이 커졌다.
