Bible Reading - Acts 19:31~41

19:31 Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater.

바울의 친구였던 그 지방의 관리들 중 일부조차 그에게 전갈을 보내, 위험을 무릅쓰고 극장 안으로 들어가지 말라고 간곡히 당부했다.

19:32 The assembly was in confusion: 그 모임에 혼란이 있었다.

Some were shouting one thing, some another.

몇몇 사람은 한가지를 외치고 있었고 몇몇 사람들은 다른 것을 외치고 있었다.

Most of the people did not even know why they were there.

대부분의 사람들은 왜 그들이 거기에 있는지 알지도 못했다.

19:33 The Jews pushed Alexander to the front, 유대인들이 알렉산더를 앞으로  밀어내었고

and some of the crowd shouted instructions to him.

그 군중들 중에 몇 사람은 그에게 지시사항들을 외쳤다. 

He motioned for silence in order to make a defense before the people.

그는 사람들 앞에서 변론하기 위해 조용히 해 달라는 몸짓을 했다.

19:34 But when they realized he was a Jew, 그러나 그들이 그가 유대인이라는 것을 깨닫고서 

they all shouted in unison for about two hours:

그들 모두가 대략 두 시간 동안 한 목소리로 소리를 질렀다.

 "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"

"에베소인들의 아르테미스는 위대하다."

19:35 The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: 그 도시의 서기가 군중들을 조용하게 하고 말했다.

"Men of Ephesus,에베소 사람들아,

doesn't all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?

에베소 시가 위대한 아르테미스 여신의 신전과 하늘에서 내려온 그 여신의 형상을 수호하는 곳이라는 사실을 온 세상이 알지 못합니까?

19:36 Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to be quiet and not do anything rash.

그러므로 이러한 사실들은 부인할 수 없는 것이니, 당신은 조용히 지내며 경솔한 행동을 하지 말아야 합니다.

19:37 You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess.

이 사람들은 신전을 약탈하지도 않았고 우리 여신을 모독하지도 않았는데, 당신들은 이 사람들을 이곳으로 끌고 왔습니다.

19:38 If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, 

그래서 만일 드미트리우스와 그의 동료 장인들이 누구가에 대해 불만을 가지고 있다면 

the courts are open and there are proconsuls. 법정은 열려 있고 속주 총독들도 있습니다.

They can press charges. 그들이 고소할 수 있습니다.

19:39 If there is anything further you want to bring up,

만일 당신들이 가져오기를 원하는 어떤 것이 더 있다면

it must be settled in a legal assembly. 그것은 합법적인 민회에서 해결되어야 합니다.

19:40 As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of today's events. 

현재 상황으로는 오늘 벌어진 일로 인해 폭동 혐의를 받을 위험에 처해 있습니다.

In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it."

그런 경우라면 이 소동을 설명할 수 없을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그럴 만한 이유가 없기 때문입니다.

19:41 After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.

그가 이것을 말하고서 그는 그 민회를 해산시켰다.
