Chris De Burgh... 드물게 국내에서도 꾸준히 사랑받는 아르헨티나 출신

싱어 송 라이트로서 출생은 아르헨티나 부에노스 아이레스에 태어났지만

아르헨티나 주재 영국 대사관에서 근무하는 아일랜드계 외교관인 아버지와

아일랜드계 비서관인 어머니 사이에서 태어난 아이리쉬계다

우수에 가득찬 발라드에 호소력 짙은 음색을 지닌 영국 신사 크리스 드 버그는    

포크와 심포닉적인 아트 락 컨셉위주로 앨범을 발표하여 대중 들에겐

큰 호응을 못 받았지만 평론가들로부터는 극찬을 받은 아티스트중의 하나이다.

75년 데뷰한 이래 크리스 디 버그는 30년이 훨씬 넘는 음악 경력을 지닌 그지만

그의 최고 미국 시장 히트곡은 1986년 빌보드 싱글 차트 3위까지 올랐던

"The Lady In Red".가 최고다 하지만 영국 차트에서는 1위를 한 이 곡은

1989년 해리슨 포드 주연의 영화 [Working Girl])에 삽입되기도 했다.

그러나 미국 시장을 제외한 지역에서의 그의 인지도는 상당히 높고 충실한 팬들 역시

제법 많으며 특히 데뷔 앨범 [Far Beyond These Castle Walls]에

수록되어 있던 싱글 "Turning Round"는 브라질 차트에서

무려 17주 동안이나 1위를 기록했다.

미국 시장의 영향권 아래에 있는 우리나라 역시 그의 명성만큼 대접받지 못하는 듯한

느낌이 있지만 1979년의 "Crusader" 앨범에 수록되어 있던

"The Girl With April In Her Eyes"는 싱글 발매조차 안 되었음에도

유독 우리나라에서 널리 사랑받았던 곡이라고 할수 있다.

흐르는 곡 이곡 Carry On도 "Crusader" 앨범에 수록되어 있는곡으로

곡 전반부 피아노 연주와 마지막 엔딩부의 피아노 연주가 너무도 매력적인 곡으로

곡 중간중간에 외쳐대는 크리스 의 절규가 상당히 인상적인 노래다

특히 곡 엔딩부에 흐르는 마지막 피아노 반주는 긴 여운을 남기며 구슬 흐르듯 흘러간다...
