제43용 順志(순지)......희망하는 바에 순응함......第50事

Application 43 :

  Following the Parents′ Will(Sun-ji)...Complying with what they hope for... chapter 50.

   順(순)은 평화로운 것이며 志(지)는 희망하는 바의 움직임이다.

    Sun(順,순) means being peaceful,

    and Ji(志,지) means the movement or inclination of what one hopes for.

     
   부모님이 희망하는 바의 움직임은 부모님마다 다르다.

     The inclination of what parents hope for varies from parent to parent.

 
   자식이 부모님이 무엇을 희망하는 바를 알지 못하면 부모님은 희망하는 바를 얻을 수 없게 되어
   비록 집에서 좋고 편안한 것을 다하여 드린다 해도 부모님 마음에 항상 평화스럽지 못한 움직임이 있게 된다.

     If children do not know what their parents hope for,

     the parents will not be able to attain their wishes.

     In this case, even if the children provide them with the finest comforts and utmost care at home,

     there will always be an uneasy, unpeaceful movement in the parents′ hearts.

    고로 큰 효자는 능히 부모님이 희망하시는 바의 움직임에 부합한다.

     Therefore, a truly great and filial child naturally aligens themselves with and fulfills

      the inclination of what their parents hope for.

     ※ Filial piety(효도) : 부모에 대한 효성을 뜻하는 가장 정확한 여어 표현입니다.

          Tne inclination of what they hope for(희만하는 바의 움직임) :

           '마음의 움직임(의지, 바람)'을 직역에 가깝지만 자연스럽게 풀어냈습니다.

      ■ 順은 平也요 志는 志氣也라 父母志氣 各自不同하니 (순은 평야요 지는 지기야라 부모지기 각자부동하니)

          "Sun(順,순) means peace, and Ji(志,지) means the spirit of one′s will.

          The spirit and will of parents are each different  from one another."   

      ■ 子不知父母之志氣 則父母不得志하야 (자부지부모지지기 즉부모부득지하야)

           "If a child dose not understand the spirit and will of their parents,

           the parents will not be able to attain what their hearts desire."

      ■ 雖窮身家之好娛라도 常有不平之氣하나니 (수궁신가지호오라도 상유불평지기하나니)

           "Even if the child exhausts all the finest pleasures and comforts available with the

            home to serve them, there will always remain an unpeaceful,

            unsettled spirit in the parents′ hearts."

      ■ 爲大孝者는 能順父母之志니라. (위대효자는 능순부모지지니라.)

           "Therefore, one who practices great filial piety is fully capable of complying

            with and honoring the true will of their parents."

          ※ 志氣(지기) : 앞선 한글본에서는 '희망하는 바의 움직임)으로 풀어서 설명했던 단어입니다.

                                   영어로는 "the spirit of one′s will"(의지의 정신/ 기운)로 번역하여

                                   원문의 한문 맛을 더 살렸습니다.

                雖窮身家之好娛(수궁신가지호오) : '몸(身,신)과 집안(家,가)의 좋은 즐거움(好娛,호오)을

                                  다하다(窮,궁)'라는 뜻으로, 부모님께 물질적, 육체적 편안함을 극진히 대접한다는

                                  의미를 "exhausts all the finest pleasures and comforts"표현 했습니다.
