Human corruption is well shown in violence and riot. Will Durant records in his 「Lesson from History」, "since the beginning of the history, 268 years out of 3,421 years were the only time that did not have a war." In the Two World Wars, 225,000 dollars were wasted in killing one solider of the enemy force. People, today, still take a pleasure of having wars, and breaking out a riot. The apostle Paul said that a human who had no fear of God, is more prone to devil desires such as killing. "Their feet are swift to shed blood"(Rom 3:15). Knowing cannibalistic people still exits in this world, we realize no other being is crueler than a human being. Even though the United States was established upon the spirit of Christianity, twice as many people as the people killed in the previous war have been killed in the country since the year 1900. Arnold Barnett, a professor of M.I.T reported that one out of fifty children born in fifty big cities is killed. The number outgrows the number of soldier killed in the war. Only a human being kills another human being. Many had been killed under the ruler of communism and Nazi. A corrupted human being ultimately faces destruction and troubles. "Ruin and misery mark their ways"(Rom 3:16). The evidence of destruction is shown in a contemporary society. Robbery, rape and violence are done with no reason. The word 'abuse' is used often these days. Many children and wives are abused. Destruction brings out suffering and hopelessness at the end. Therefore, there is no peace for a corrupted human being(Rom 3:17). People today eagerly pursue peace than any other generation. But, the peace often pursued by individuals or leaders is only on a surface level, just as leaders in the book of Jeremiah did. "They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace', they say, when there is no peace"(Jer 6:14). The Bible introduces us the pathway to a true peace. We have true peace when Jesus Christ, the King of peace, comes into our heart, family, society and this world. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful"(Col 3:15). |
