23:13 More than forty men were involved in this plot.

사십명 이상의 사람들이 이 음모에 가담했다.

23:14 They went to the chief priests and elders and said, 그들은 대제사장들과 장로들에게 가서 말했다.

"We have taken a solemn oath(엄숙한 맹세) not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.

우리는 우리가 바울을 죽이기까지 어떤 것도 먹지 않겠다고 확고한 결심을 했다.

23:15 Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case.

자, 이제 당신과 산헤드린은 그의 사건에 대한 더 정확한 정보를 얻고자 한다는 구실로 그를 당신들 앞으로 데려오라고 천부장에게 청원하라.

We are ready to kill him before he gets here."

우리는 그가 여기에 도착하기 전에 그를 죽일 준비가 되어 있다.

23:16 But when the son of Paul's sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.그러나 바울의 여동생의 아들이 이 음모를 듣고, 그는 막사로 가서 바울에게 말했다.

23:17 Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, 

그래서 바울은 백부장들 중에 한 사람을 불러서 말했다.

"Take this young man to the commander; 이 젊은 이를 천부장에게 데려가라. 

he has something to tell him."그가 그에게 말할 것이 있다.

23:18 So he took him to the commander. 그래서 그는 천부장에게 그를 데려갔다.

The centurion said, 백부장이 말했다.

"Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you."

죄수인 바울이 이 젊은이가 당신에게 말할 것이 있기 때문에 내게 이 젊은이를 보내서 당신에게 데려가도록 요청했습니다. 

23:19 The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked, "What is it you want to tell me?"

천부장이 그 젊은이를 손잡고 한쪽으로 데려가서 "네가 나에게 말하고 싶은 것이 무엇인가?"하고 물었다.

23:20 He said: "The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him.

그는 "유대인들이 내일 바울에 대한 더 정확한 정보를 얻고 싶다는 구실로 그를 산헤드린 공회에 데려오도록 당신에게 요청하기로 합의했습니다."하고 말했다.

23:21 Don't give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him.

40명이 넘는 사람들이 그를 기다리며 매복하고 있기 때문에, 그들에게 허락하지 마십시오. 

They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him.

그들은 그(바울)를 죽이기까지 먹지도 마시지도 않겠다고 맹세했습니다.

They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request."

그들은 이제 그들의 요구에 당신을 동의를 기다리며 준비하고 있습니다. 

23:22 The commander dismissed the young man and cautioned him,

천부장은 그 젊은이에게 주의를 주어 보냈다.

"Don't tell anyone that you have reported this to me."

네가 나에게 이것을 보고했다는 것을 어느 누구에게도 말하지 말라.

23:23 Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them, 

그때 그는 백부장 둘을 불러서 명령했다.

"Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.

오늘 밤 9시에 가이사랴로 갈 병사 200명, 기병 70명, 창병 200명으로 구성된 부대를 준비시켜라.
