Y3 students visited filmmaker, videographer, jewellery maker, Ben Rongen

Today Year 3 students were fortunate to have a visit from filmmaker, videographer and jewellery maker, Ben Rongen.

Our students are learning all about explorers and exploration in their Where we are in Place and Time unit of inquiry.

Ben Rongen was there when a crew of marine archeologists recovered a massive haul of 17th-century ‘kraak ware’ from the bottom of the South China Sea. He’s been upcycling this imperfect treasure ever since – crafting jewellery out of shipwrecked ceramics.

Today Ben visited Uplands and shared many amazing pieces of porcelain from his collection with our lucky Year 3’s. He also talked to them about exploration, searching for shipwrecks and underwater exploration.
