25:1 Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem,

베스도는 그 지방에 도착한 지 사흘 만에 가이사랴에서 예루살렘으로 올라갔다.

25:2 where the chief priests and Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul.

그곳에서 대제사장들과 유대인 지도자들이 그(총독) 앞에 나타나 바울에 대한 고발 내용을 제시했다.

25:3 They urgently requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem,

그들은 베스도에게 호의를 베풀어 바울을 예루살렘으로 이송해 줄 것을 간절히 요청했다.

for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.

그들이 그를 죽이려고 길목에서 매복을 준비하고 있었기 때문이다.

25:4 Festus answered, "Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon.

베스도가 "바울은 가이사랴에 구금되어 있고, 나도 곧 그곳으로 갈 것이다."라고 대답했다. 

25:5 Let some of your leaders come with me and press charges against the man there, if he has done anything wrong."

당신들의 지도자 중 몇 사람을 나와 함께 보내어, 그가 무슨 잘못이라도 저질렀다면 그를 고발하게 하라.

25:6 After spending eight or ten days with them, he went down to Caesarea, and the next day he convened(소집하다, 모으다) the court and ordered that Paul be brought before him.

그들과 8일이나 10일 정도 지낸 뒤, 그는 가이사랴로 내려가서 이튿날 법정을 열고 바울을 자기 앞으로 데려오라고 명령했다.

25:7 When Paul appeared, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many serious charges against him, which they could not prove.

바울이 나타나자 예루살렘에서 내려온 유대인들이 그를 에워싸고 여러 가지 중대한 혐의를 제기했으나, 그 내용을 입증할 수는 없었다.

25:8 Then Paul made his defense: "I have done nothing wrong against the law of the Jews or against the temple or against Caesar."

그러자 바울이 "나는 유대인의 율법이나 성전, 또는 황제에 대해 아무런 잘못도 저지르지 않았습니다." 라고 변론했다. 

25:9 Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, "Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?"

베스도는 유대인들의 환심을 사고자 바울에게 "예루살렘으로 올라가서 이 혐의들에 대해 내 앞에서 재판을 받겠소?"라고 물었다.
