Jesus Tempted & Beginning of His Ministry
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (Remember it was right after His baptism with God's approval of His status; Sonship of diety.)
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. (Jesus' spirituality should be its pinnacle, even higher than the baptism, after forty days of fasting. And temptation is coming at this very moment of His own achievement.)
3 The tempter (Satanic) came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” (Temptation for His physical desire.)
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Answer is in the Bible. Deut. 8:3)
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” (Tempting with the word of Ps. 91:11-12; misuse of the Word. Temptation for His highest status; position/pride.)
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (Answer is in the Bible. Deut. 6:16.)
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” (Temptation for desire of worldly things (materials) which coming through eyes. Wanting what you see.)
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (Answer is in the Bible. Deut. 6:13.)
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (Heb 4:15, 2:18, Jesus won the battle of temptation, so sinless. And help us to fight against the temptation. As much as we empty our desires of body, mind, and spirit as it is written in 1Jn 2:15-16, 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world., we may be filled with the Holy Spirit.)
You may compare this Temptation of Jesus with Gen. 3:6 and 1Jn. 2:15-16.
Gen 3:6, When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was
good for food (lust of the flesh, physical pleasure; Hedonism)
and pleasing to the eye (lust of eyes, desire for material satisfaction; Materialism),
and also desirable for gaining wisdom (pride of life, desire to be like God; Humanism), she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
"Hedonism, Materialism, & Humanism" is my definition of Temptation- Reasons of Sinning; Pursuing physical pleasure, material satisfaction, and humanly pride more than needed, more than given by God.

Jesus Begins to Preach
12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (Isa. 9:1-2, Nazareth used to be a northern isolated area which was vulnerable from the invasions of northern powers such as Assyria. Jesus grew and lived there and naturally and intentionally began His ministry where not much good and hope. Jn. 1:46)
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” (Kingdom Message- the Gospel is the most important core message of Jesus; He came to realize- make real- the Kingdom of God among us, Immanuel; God being with us here, there and up there at the same time. Mt. 4:23, 24:14)
Jesus Calls His First Disciples
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
19 “Come, follow me,”Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
(Jesus called ordinary people to be His disciples. God seeks not able one but available. Availability but not ability matters because He Himself is almighty. So, we who are not able make ourselves available to Him for His Kingdom.)
Jesus Heals the Sick
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.
25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
(Healing the sick- to live with, Teaching the Word- how to live, and Proclaiming the Kingdom of God- what to believe is the sum of His ministries.)
