Dark Knight
I once thought the title, Dark Knight was Dark night which I assumed that it represents the darkest hours brightened by a man named Christian Bale so that I was a little shocked when the title appeared after the ending credit. Christopher who always made me confused and dizzy implanting , in his movies, profound and hard-to-realize messages, this time, gave me a couple of relatively clear ideas, though, still profound. The movie is about a Batman who is technically a bat clad man desiring to protect justice dealing with a psychopath known as the Joker. The Joker tries to prove human essence is evil by corrupting the most respectable man and stimulating batman to kill him which eventually doesn't happen.
First, the movie questions the concept of human nature the Nobel prize winning writer, William Golding has established in his novel ' Lord of the Flies' in which he portrays a group of teenage boys trapped in a lonely island , splitting into to parties. Most of the boys join Jack who represents the evil and cruel nature of humanity while only a few remains members of the party lead by rational Ralph representing morality.
Golding suggests ,ultimately, deep under human kind is ruthlessness describing corruption, compromise, and murder. The story ends with complete collapse of civilization.
By contrast to Golding's theory in the Lord of the Flies, the movie seems to assert that there are people as well who adhere to their human values at the darkest times which surprisingly also can be seen in Golding's masterpiece and commonly missed. Look at Ralph, the protagonist of the novel. The rational main character was not only used as a factor redounding to the cruelty of human nature but also implies that people with conscience actually exist. Similar to this interpretation, the film throws the message to the public : Are humans truly resistless to their evil nature.
In my point of view, human nature includes evilness although that is not all - in other words human nature can be controlled by regulation and conscience-. While regulation is forced and ,thus, limited to ordinary conditions, the major one, conscience is the true standard one should follow. The revelation of human nature occurs in the most desperate and intense circumstances as can be seen in the movie. Nolan depicts the moment with a suspenseful and symbolic story.
The second message Nolan implanted is the definition of a hero. The conclusion I have made after watching the movie is that hero is not the one with great strength or power behind masks but those who do their utmost in their duties firmly holding their position if the world acknowledges or not.
Another element notable is the villain (one of the most important parts in this kind of stories), Joker played by Heath Ledger.
This crazy, pessimistic man is the historical realistic psycho character in super hero films which can be seen as a part of Nolan's plan for the movie to be more close to reality.
