잠언6장 말씀.

[사랑하는 나의 가족]

1. 내 아들아, 네가 만일 네 친구를 위해 보증인이 되거나 나그네와 더불어 네 손을 마주쳐서

    서약하였으면

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, [if] thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2. 네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 올무에 걸렸으며 네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 붙잡히게

    되었느니라.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3. 내 아들아, 네가 네 친구의 손에 빠졌은즉 이제 이같이 하여 네 자신을 건지라.

    가서 겸손히 행하며 네 친구로 하여금 확신을 갖게 하라.

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. 

4. 네 눈이 잠들지 말게 하며 네 눈꺼풀이 졸지 말게 하고

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5. 노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이, 새가 새 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이 네

    자신을 건질지어다.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6. 너 게으른 자여, 개미에게 가서 개미의 길들을 깊이 살펴보고 지혜를 얻으라.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7. 개미는 인도자도 없고 감독도 없고 치리자도 없으되

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8. 여름에 자기의 먹을 것을 예비하며 수확 때에 자기 양식을 모으느니라.

Provideth her meat in the summer, [and] gathereth her food in the harvest.

9. 오 게으른 자여, 네가 어느 때까지 자려느냐? 네가 어느 때에 잠에서 일어나려느냐?

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10. 좀 더 자자. 좀 더 졸자. 손을 모으고 좀 더 자자, 하면

[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11. 네 빈궁이 여행자같이, 네 궁핍이 군사같이 이르리로다.

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

12. 품행이 나쁜 자 곧 사악한 자는 비뚤어진 입을 가지고 걸어 다니며

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13. 눈으로 눈짓을 하고 발로 말을 하며 손가락으로 가르치나니

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14. 그는 자기 마음속에 비뚤어진 것을 품으며 계속해서 해악을 꾀하고 불화를 뿌리느니라.

Frowardness [is] in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 

15. 그러므로 그의 재앙이 갑자기 임하리니 그가 구할 길도 없이 갑자기 패망하리라.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

16. {주}께서 이 여섯 가지를 미워하시며 참으로 일곱 가지가 그분께 가증한 것이니

These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: 

17. 곧 교만한 눈빛과 거짓된 혀와 무죄한 피를 흘리는 손과

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 

18. 사악한 꾀를 꾸미는 마음과 신속히 해악으로 치닫는 발과

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19. 거짓들을 말하는 거짓 증인과 형제들 가운데 불화를 뿌리는 자니라.

A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20. 내 아들아, 네 아버지의 명령을 지키고 네 어머니의 법을 버리지 말며

My son, keep thy fathers commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21. 그것들을 계속해서 네 마음에 묶어 두고 네 목에 매어 두라.

Bind them continually upon thine heart, [and] tie them about thy neck.

22. 그것이 네가 다닐 때에 너를 인도하고 네가 잘 때에 너를 보호하며 네가 깰 때에 너와

      말하리니

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and [when] thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23. 그 명령은 등불이요, 그 법은 빛이며 훈계하는 책망들은 생명의 길이니라.

For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life: 

24. 그것이 너를 지켜 악한 여자에게서 떠나게 하며 낯선 여자의 혀에서 나오는 아첨하는

      말에서 떠나게 하리라.

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. 

25. 그녀의 아름다움을 따라 네 마음속에 정욕을 품지 말며 그녀가 그녀의 눈꺼풀로 너를

       붙잡지 못하게 하라.

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26. 음탕한 여자로 말미암아 남자가 빵 한 조각을 얻으려고 끌려가나니 간음하는 여자는

      귀중한 생명을 사냥하리로다.

For by means of a whorish woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. 

27. 사람이 불을 품에 품고 자기 옷이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐?

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28. 사람이 뜨거운 숯불을 밟고 자기 발이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29. 자기 이웃의 아내에게로 들어가는 자도 그와 같으리라. 누구든지 그녀에게 손을 대는 자는

      무죄하지 아니하리라.

So he that goeth in to his neighbours wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30. 만일 도둑이 주릴 때에 자기 혼을 만족시키려고 도둑질을 하면 사람들이 그를 멸시하지는

      아니하느니라.

[Men] do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31. 그러나 그가 들키면 일곱 배를 갚아야 하리니 그가 자기 집의 모든 재산을 주어야 하리라.

But [if] he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32. 그러나 누구든지 여자와 간음하는 자는 명철이 부족한 자니라. 그것을 행하는 자는 자기

      자신의 혼을 망하게 하며

[But] whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he [that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul. 

33. 상처와 불명예를 얻고 자기의 치욕을 씻지 못하리라.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34. 한 남자의 격노는 질투이므로 그가 원수 갚는 날에 용서하지 아니하고

For jealousy [is] the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35. 어떤 대속물도 중히 여기지 아니하며 네가 많은 선물을 줄지라도 그가 만족하여 쉬지

      아니하리라.
