The participle phrase “swimming slowly” describes the pronoun “I.”
WHILE I was swimming, I didn't notice the shark on my tail.
결국 같은 얘기지만 문장의 more punch 역동성은 분사구에 있고 부사절에는 없다
절개파의 분사의 동작은 수식받는 명사라는 법칙이
분사와 본문 주어 사이에도 여전히 태양/해바라기 관계로 존재하니
같은 법칙을 적용하는 일관성 consistence 의 존재가 이해를 쉽게 한다
The participle phrase “Annoyed by its heavy breathing” describes the pronoun “I.”
이 역시 절개파의 분사 이해 방식이다
본문 주어인 내가 짜증나서 그리말했다
즉 분사의 준동작과 본동작 사이에는 인과 관계에 있기에 그리 설명된다
분사형부파는 부사절로 이해한다
Because I was annoyed by its heavy breathing, I told it to get lost.
부사절로 하면 간단히 이해되서 좋긴하나
단순히 이유 설명하는 부사절이라
분사가 주는 동시성과 끈끈한 인과관계 묘사라는 뉘앙스는 부재한다 본다
분사구의 간결성 또한 무시못할 다른 특성이라 하겠다
However, the participle phrase can also be placed after the word it describes. In that case, it is usually set off by commas, as in this example:
또한 분사구는 문장 중간에 써도 의미가 자연스럽게 흐르나
부사절을 쓰면 좀 걸치덕거린다
My sister, as she is burning the toast, looked distracted
Like appositives, participles and participle phrases are an indispensable part of the writer's bag of tricks
because they allow you to create concise and interesting sentences.
Use them to combine information from two or more sentences into one sentence.
Notice how much more punch the following sentence has when it is combined by using a participle:
분사구의 특성은 축약성에 있다
두 문장을 한문장으로 압축하여 흥미진진한 문장이 되게 한다
Two sentences: Noel Coward made a slight but pointed adjustment to an old cliché.
He once described another writer as every other inch a gentleman.
One sentence: Making a slight but pointed adjustment to the old cliché,
Noel Coward once described another writer as every other inch a gentleman.
Noel Coward once described another writer as every other inch a gentleman.
본문 주어 Noel Coward 이 분사의 준동작인 making 을 동시에 한다는것Noel Coward once described another writer as every other inch a gentleman.
The participle is a non-finite form of the verb which has a verbal and an adjectival or an adverbial character.
Participle may have different syntactic functions.
All the forms of Participle I may be used as an adverbial modifier.
분사구를 부사로 보는건 부사 접속사를 염두에 두고 하는 말이다
허나 분사구 하나만 놓고 볼때
부사 접속사도 없고
분사의 주어는 본문 주어를 공유하니
부사절과는 전혀 같지 아니한 상황을 부인할 수 없다
You can't deny seeing the differences.
하여 분사구를 독립된 하나의 개체로 보는것이
부사절의 축약형이라 보는것 보다 일관성 특색 뿐만 아니라
일반성 특색도 부각되어 좋다
즉 명사 뒤에 위치하면 형용사절 축약이라고 말 바꾸지 않고
명사뒤나 주어 앞이나 어디든 anywhere in a sentence
항상 형역이라는 일관성/일반성을 고수할 수 있어 좋다
또한 "분사구 = 부사절" 이라는 주장을 편다면
부사절의 주어가 주절의 주어와 다를 수도 있으니
"분사의 주어 = 본문의 주어" 라는 분사법칙에 어긋나니 분사논리에도 어긋난다
a) adverbial modifier of time
Approaching Malta Street, Soho, Soams thought with wonder of those years in Brighton.
Having reached the classroom, she became the object of many questions.
Entering her room that evening, Elfride found a packet for herself on the dressing-table.
Turning slowly she went to the room.
주어수식 분사구는 본문 주어가 동작자라야 한다는 법칙은 영원하다
허나 부사절의 주어가 주절의 주어와 일치해야 된다는 법칙은 없다
분사구의 특성인 동시, 전후, 인과관계로 얼마든지 설명할 수 있으니
굳이 부사 접속사를 붙이지 않아도 문맥상/의미상 어떤 경우인지 무리없이 짐작이 가능하다
As winter is approaching Malta Street, Soams thought with wonder of those years in Brighton.
위와 같이 부사절의 주어는 주절의 주어와 다를 수 있다
허나 분사구는 않되니 이 점도 부사절과는 다르다
그걸 독립명사구/절대구가 증명한다
Winter /approaching Malta Street, Soams thought with wonder of those years in Brighton.
b) adverbial modifier of manner and attendant circumstances
She ran screaming out of room.
누가 screaming 하는가?
주어 she 이다; 동작자 일치
본동작이나 준동작이 동시에 일어나는가?
그렇다; 동시성 입증
문두에 쓸 수 있나?
당근; 분사구의 본문주어 수식 특성이라는 일관성 입증
Screaming out of room, she ran.
She balanced herself on the curbstone and began to walk carefully, setting heel to toe and counting her steps.
누가 setting 하는가?
주어 she, 즉 주어수식 형역
동시성 특성?
Yes.
문두?
Yes.
분사구 특성이다
Gwendoline was silent, again looking at her hands.
He has been in three revolutions fighting on the barricades.
근디 왜 콤마로 분리 않했나?Participle II as an adverbial modifier
In this function Participle II is preceded by the conjunctions when, while, as if, as though, though.
a) of time
When questioned Annie had implied vaguely,… but she was anxious about her brother-in-law.
b) of condition
It was a dreadful thing that he now proposed, a break of the law which, if discovered, would bring them into the police court.
c) of comparison
Mr.Kantwise..shook his head as though lost in wonder and admiration.
위의 예문은 축약된 부사절의 경우나 분사구로 하면 부사 접속사며 주어/조동사 등은 사라지고
동사의 ing 형이나 과거분사만 남아 주어의 동작 또는 피동작 (수동동작) 으로 동작자 일치와
인과/전후 관계 일치라는 분사구의 특성을 나타나게 된다
불완전 자동사 역시 분사형으로 만들어 분사나 분사구로 쓸 수 있다
Participle
II of intransitive verbs which denotes passing into a new state may be
used attributively, mostly with the verbs to fade, to wither, to retire,
to fall, to vanish, e.g. faded leaves, a withered flower, a retired
colonel, a fallen star, the vanished jewels.
An attribute
expressed by Participle II may be detached; in this case it often has an
additional meaning of an adverbial modifier.
The housekeeper had come out of her room, attracted by the violent ringing of the bell.
Accompanied by his father and Steger, he (Cowperwood) ascended to his new room.
Crushed at first by his imprisonment, he had soon found a dull relief in it.
과분사구의 경우로 주어가 본동작을 할 때의 준동작/수동동작이나 상태을 나타낸다
If
we have a participle used as an attribute the person denotes by the
noun performs the action expressed by the –ing form; e.g. a dancing girl
(a girl who dances), a singing child (a child who sings) and in the end
in your case a screaming baby (a baby who screams)
해바라기 분사와 태양 명사의 관계다
If
we have a gerund as part of a compound noun복합명사, the person or thing
denoted by the noun does not perform the action expressed by the
ing-form, e.g. a dancing-hall (a hall for dancing), a cooking-stove( a
stove for cooking), walking shoes (shoes for walking).
a dancing-hall, a cooking-stove, walking shoes 등에서 명사가 분사의 동작을 하는 분사의 특성이 없으면 분사라 할 수 없으니
동명사로 하여 동명사+명사=복합명사라 불린다
마지막으로 분사구를 쓰지 않고 형절/부절로 쓴다면 어떻까 보자
In a drawing that illustrates an article in the most recent Harvard Magazine,
a sad homeschooled girl sits imprisoned in a house made of books
labeled “reading,” “writing,” “arithmatic.”
In a drawing that illustrates an article in the most recent Harvard Magazine,
a sad girl //who is homeschooled sits as she is imprisoned in a house //which is made of books //which is
labeled “reading,” “writing,” “arithmatic.”
의미야 다 같이 나오나 절을 쓴 문장이 덜 세련되고 복잡해진다는 걸 알 수 있다
