A friend of yours has received some money and plans to use all of it either to go on vacation or to buy a car. Your friend has asked you for advice. Compare your friend’s two choices and explain which one you think your friend should choose. Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.
I have a friend who has recently earned a sum of money by winning a popular TV quiz show. He cannot decide between a car and a vacation and is asking my advice. Although there are strong reasons supporting both choices, I would recommend him to go on a vacation with that money.
Firstly, it is wise to spend money on a vacation. From time to time everyone needs a refreshing break from everyday life. Without vacations, people get stressed out. Furthermore, vacations also provide people with wonderful memories. For example, some of my most memorable moments in life occurred while I backpacked around Europe. The memories I made during that time made it worth all the money I spent.
Alternatively, if my friend has extra money for gas, he can consider buying a car. This is a good idea because owning a car is very convenient. Whenever he wants to go somewhere, he can just get in the car and go. He does not have to look at schedules or search for bus fare. A car is also an asset that he can sell when he does not need it any longer or he can trade it in for something better. However, cars are very costly. My friend may have money to spend on a car now, but one day it will need repairs and maintenance, not to mention the fact that he should pay for gas and parking every day. In addition, he will have to spend money on things such as insurance that are not included in the initial cost of buying a car.
To conclude, there are good reasons for my friend to spend his money on either a vacation or a car. However, in my opinion, his money would be better spent on the vacation. If he follows my advice, he will have long-lasting memories that will affect his life both short- and long-term.
