Micheal: (Fires three rounds into the air, then points the gun at the clerk)

The vault. Open it.

금고문 열어.

Clerk: We can't. The branch manager's not here.

못 열어요. 지점장이 여기 없거든요.

Micheal: (Looks away and back at her.) Where is he?

어디 있어?

Clerk: (She has the side of her head glued to the counter.) It's lunchtime, he's at Whitecastle.

점심시간이라 화이트 캐슬에 있어요.

Micheal: (Surprised) Whitecastle?

화이트 캐슬?

Clerk: It's a fast food restaurant that serves those little square burgers.

패스트푸드점이에요, 작고 네모난 햄버거를 팔죠.

Micheal: I know what it is. (Fires another two rounds in to the air, then points the gun back at her.) I'm not playing games. Open it.

그게 무엇인지는 나도 알아.

장난하는 거 아니니까 어서 열어.

Clerk: Sir, you have half a million in your bag already. Don't you think it would be better for...

가방에 담은 현금만 해도 50만 달러니 그거라도 가지고...

(Police sirens wail right outside. Micheal puts his hands up, closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. When he opens them again he's smiling slightly and turns.)

Police Officer: This is the police, you are completely surrounded.

경찰이다, 넌 완전히 포위됐다.

CUT TO:

[EXT. SAVINGS BANK-DAY]

(Police Officers are stationed behind their vehicles, pointing guns at the bank entrance.)

Police Officer: Put down your weapon. Put down your weapons now!

무기를 버려라! 무기를 당장 바닥에 내려놔!

CUT BACK TO:

[INT. MAIN AREA OF THE BANK-DAY]

(Micheal pulls another gun from its holster, raises both hands into the air and drops them.)

COLD CUT TO:

[INT. COURTROOM-DAY]

Judge: Rarely in the case of armed robbery do we hear a plea of no contest. Are you sure about this, Mr.Scofield?

무장 강도 사건에서 검사 측의 구형을 그대로 받아들이겠다니 아주 의외군요. 진심인가요, 스코필드 씨?

Micheal: (Sitting in the defendant's chair) I'm sure Your Honor.

그렇습니다, 재판장님.

Veronica: You Honor, we'd like to recess if we could, my client's a bit confused at the moment.

재판장님, 잠시 휴정을 요청합니다. 제 의뢰인이 잠시 혼동을 한 것 같습니다.

Micheal: I'm not Your Honor. (Veronica looks at him.)

아닙니다, 재판장님.

Veronica: He is Your Honor. (They both look at each other.)

맞습니다, 재판장님.

Judge: Perhaps you should heed your representations advice; take some time to consider your response.

피고인은 변호사의 조언에 귀를 좀 기울일 필요가 있겠군요. 시간을 더 드릴 테니 재고해 보도록 하십시오.

Micheal: I've already done that Your Honor. (Micheal and Veronica look at each other again. Veronica looks confused. Micheal looks back to the judge.)

시간은 이미 충분히 가졌습니다, 판사님.

Judge: I'll retire to my chambers to determine sentencing. Courts recessed until one thirty.

형 선고를 확정짓기 위해 판사실에 다녀올 테니 1시 30분까지 휴정합니다.

(People move to get up and Micheal looks at a kid sitting in the public benches. The bailiff gently nudges Micheal to get up and Veronica starts collecting her things.)

LJ: (Standing) Uncle Mike.

마이클 삼촌.

Micheal: I didn't want you to come. (He gets cuffed.) Go home LJ. (As he gets taken away) I didn't want you to see this.

네가 여기 오지 않았으면 했단다.

집에 가, 엘제이.

이런 꼴을 보이고 싶지 않았어.

(He is escorted from the courtroom, leaving LJ, who lingers, looking disappointed.)

CUT TO:

[INT. HOLDING CELLS-DAY]

(Micheal is being led to his cell, with Veronica in tow.)

Micheal: He's not going to take this well.

저 애는 이걸 감당하지 못할 거야.

Veronica: Can you blame him? He's your nephew. He's beginning to get the idea that anybody he attaches himself to is going to end up in jail. And he's not the only one who's starting to feel that way. (She moves up to the bars.) Can you leave us alone for a moment?

저 애를 탓하는 거야? 엘제이는 네 조카야. 자기가 사랑하는 사람은 죄다 감옥에 가게 된다는 생각을 하기 시작할 거야. 엘제이만 그런 생각이 드는 게 아니야, 마이클.

잠깐 얘기 좀 할 수 있을까요?

Bailiff: (Locks up Michael's cell) One minute.

1분 만입니다.

Veronica: Don't you understand. You just put the book in that woman's hand and she's going to lob it at you like a grenade. Justice and punishment are the same thing to her.

모르겠어? 넌 방금 판사에게 최고 형을 달라고 한 거고 판사는 수류탄 던지듯 사정없이 법대로 널 처리할 거야. 판사에게 정의는 곧 처벌이라고.

Micheal: I know.

알아.

Veronica: Then will you please tell me what's going through your head?

그럼 대체 무슨 생각을 하고 있는지 말해줄래?

Micheal: We're been over this.

이미 끝난 일이야.

Veronica: I've known you my entire life. You don't have a violent bone in your body and I know you didn't need the money.

난 널 평생 동안 알아왔어. 폭력적인 성향이 있는 것도 아니고 돈이 목적이 아니었다는 것도 알아.

(Micheal hasn't really been looking at her, but now he turns to face her.)

Micheal: Veronica.

베로니카.

Veronica: Why won't you let me help you.

왜 못 돕게 하는 거야?

Micheal: You've been good to me, my whole life. But you gotta let me deal with this, okay?

넌 나한테 잘해줬어, 일생동안 말이야. 하지만, 이 문제는 내가 알아서 하게 해줘.

CUT TO:

[INT. COURTROOM-DAY]

Judge: Given your lack of prior criminal record I am inclined towards probation. However the fact that you discharged a deadly weapon during the commission of the crime suggests malice to me, for that reason I find it incumbent that you see the inside of a prison Mr. Scofield. It says here that you've requested to be incarcerated somewhere near your home here in Chicago. I'm willing to honor that. The closest level one facility-

전과가 없었던 것을 감안하여 집행유예 선고를 내리고 싶지만 범행 도중 총기를 발포한 점은 위협의 소지가 크다고 보입니다. 그리하여 본 판사는 피고인을 수감시킬 의무가 있다고 생각합니다. 소장을 보면 피고인은 고향인 시카고 근처에 수감시켜줄 것을 요청했는데 기꺼이 그 점을 감안해서 가장 가까운 1급 보안 교도소인...

Veronica: (Having varying emotional phases throughout this speech, protests) Level one! That's maximum security, Your Honor.

1급이요? 재판장님, 1급은 중범죄 교도소잖아요?

Judge: I would ask counsel to refrain from interrupting me. (She looks back to Micheal.) As I was saying, the closest level one facility would be Fox River State Penitentiary. As for the term of your sentence, I'm setting it at five years; you'll be eligible for parole in half that time. Sentence to be carried out immediately.

내가 말하고 있는 중에는 방해하지 않았으면 좋겠군요.

이미 말 한대로 가장 가까운 1급 보안 교도소는 폭스 리버 교도소입니다. 피고인에게 5년 형을 선고합니다. 형의 반을 채우고 나면 가석방의 기회를 갖게 될 겁니다. 형 집행은 재판이 끝나는 즉시 이루어집니다.
