Eerie silence falls on Hong Kong's Covid camps as city prepares to end mandatory isolation

Hong Kong's isolation facilities are now nearly empty as the city prepares to lift the last of its pandemic restrictions.
The city rushed to build these sprawling camps at the peak of the pandemic in a bid to stop Covid transmissions in the community.
As Honh Kong began moving towards home isolation, stays at these facilities became increasinglu voluntary.
Only 2 of the citys 9 isolation camps are still in use.
In total, over 40, 000 isolation beds now stand vacant across the city.
Authorities have not said how much was spent but officials records show the cost was in the billions of HK dollars.
From January 30, Hongkongers who test positive for the virus will no longer need to isolate.
The facilities will remain open until at least February 28 for the people who want to isolate to protect family members at home.
But the government has not laid out plans for future use of sites .
