외국을 여행하던 중에 우리 남편이

포장된 도로에 깊이 파인 곳들이 있는 것을 보게 되었습니다.

While traveling in a foreign country,

my husband noticed

that the paved roads had deep indentations.

그가 이유를 묻자 운전기사는

불법적으로 짐을 과중하게 실어 나르는 화물자동차 바퀴 때문에

생긴 것들이라고 설명해 주었습니다.

When he asked about them,

our driver explained that they were caused

by the tires of trucks carrying illegal,

overweight loads.

경찰이 트럭을 세우면 운전사들은

벌금을 피하려고 경찰에게 뇌물을 주었다는 것입니다.

When stopped by police,

the drivers paid bribes to avoid being fined.

경찰과 트럭운전사들은 금전적으로 이익을 보았겠지만,

다른 운전자들이나 납세자에게는 부당한 재정적인 부담과

형편없는 길을 다녀야 하는 불편함을 안겨 준 것입니다.

The truckers and police officers came out ahead financially,

but other drivers and taxpayers were left

with an unfair financial burden

and the inconvenience of poor roads.

모든 뇌물수수가 다 명백히 밝혀지지는 않습니다.

어떤 것은 아주 교묘합니다.

Not all bribery is overt; some is more subtle.

그리고 모든 뇌물이 다 금전적인 것만은 아닙니다.

And not all bribes are financial.

아첨은 돈 대신 말을 사용하는 뇌물의 한 유형입니다.

Flattery is a type of bribe t

hat uses words as currency.

만약 어떤 이들이 우리에게 듣기 좋은 말을 한다고 해서 특별히 대우해 준다면,

그것은 뇌물을 받는 것과 유사한 행위입니다.

If we give people preferential treatment

for saying something nice about us,

it’s similar to taking a bribe.

하나님에게는 어떤 불공평한 행위도 다 의롭지 못한 것입니다.

To God, any kind of partiality is an injustice.

하나님은 의로움을 약속의 땅에 머무르는 조건으로 내세우기까지 하셨습니다.

He even made justice a condition

of remaining in the Promised Land.

이스라엘 백성들은 정의를 곡해해서도,

불공정한 행동을 보여서도 안 되었습니다(신 16:19-20).

The Israelites were not to pervert justice

or show partiality.


뇌물수수는 다른 이들에게서 공정함을 빼앗아가는 행위입니다.

그것은 “신의 신이시며 주의 주시요 크고 능하시며 두려우신 하나님,

사람을 외모로 보지 아니하시며 뇌물을 받지 아니하시는”

 하나님의 성품을 위반하는 행위인 것입니다.

Bribery deprives others of justice,

which is an offense against the character of God,

who is “God of gods and Lord of lords,

the great God, mighty and awesome,

who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe”.

감사하게도 주님은 우리 모두를 똑같이 대해 주십니다.

그렇기에 우리도 그와 같이 서로서로에게 똑같이 대하기를 원하십니다.

Thankfully, the Lord treats all of us alike,

and He wants us to treat each other the same way

Deuteronomy  신명기 10:12-22  

[신] 10:12	이스라엘아 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 요구하시는 것이 무엇이냐 곧 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하여 그의 모든 도를 행하고 그를 사랑하며 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 섬기고 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
[신] 10:13	내가 오늘 네 행복을 위하여 네게 명하는 여호와의 명령과 규례를 지킬 것이 아니냐 and to observe the LORD'S commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
[신] 10:14	하늘과 모든 하늘의 하늘과 땅과 그 위의 만물은 본래 네 하나님 여호와께 속한 것이로되 To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
[신] 10:15	여호와께서 오직 네 조상들을 기뻐하시고 그들을 사랑하사 그들의 후손인 너희를 만민 중에서 택하셨음이 오늘과 같으니라 Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today.
[신] 10:16	그러므로 너희는 마음에 할례를 행하고 다시는 목을 곧게 하지 말라 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.
[신] 10:17	너희의 하나님 여호와는 신 가운데 신이시며 주 가운데 주시요 크고 능하시며 두려우신 하나님이시라 사람을 외모로 보지 아니하시며 뇌물을 받지 아니하시고 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
[신] 10:18	고아와 과부를 위하여 정의를 행하시며 나그네를 사랑하여 그에게 떡과 옷을 주시나니 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.
[신] 10:19	너희는 나그네를 사랑하라 전에 너희도 애굽 땅에서 나그네 되었음이니라 And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt.
[신] 10:20	네 하나님 여호와를 경외하여 그를 섬기며 그에게 의지하고 그의 이름으로 맹세하라 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.
[신] 10:21	그는 네 찬송이시요 네 하나님이시라 네 눈으로 본 이같이 크고 두려운 일을 너를 위하여 행하셨느니라 He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.
[신] 10:22	애굽에 내려간 네 조상들이 겨우 칠십 인이었으나 이제는 네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 하늘의 별 같이 많게 하셨느니라 Your forefathers who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky

It matters not what race or gender, Rich or poor or great or small, The God who made us is not partial; He sent Christ to die for all. Bribery displays partiality; love displays justice.

인종이나 성별이나 부자나 가난한 자나 위대하거나 보잘 것 없거나 상관없다네 우리를 만드신 공평하신 하나님이 그리스도를 보내 우리 모두를 위해 돌아가게 하셨다네 뇌물은 불공평을 보여주지만, 사랑은 공정함을 보여준다.
