Did the Emancipation Proclamation really free the slaves?

  The Civil War is known as the war that ended the slavery. But I don't agree with it.

 The main reason of the Civil War was the opposite attitude between the North and South toward the slavery. People in the South needed black slaves to run the cotton farms. But the North was againt slavery. In the state of growing tensions between the North and South, Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860. After he was elected, seven states in the South set up a separate new country called the Confederate States of America. The war broke out between the Confederate and Union in 1861. In 1863, to reunite the country, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. In 1865, the Confederate surrended and the war ended.

   It seems that the Civil War was successful in ending the slavery. Actually, however, the slaves were not freed. President Lincoln was not very much interested in ending the slavery.He didn't care whether the slavery would be ended or not if only he could reunite the country.Moreover, the Emancipation Proclamation had no effect on the South. Because the states in the South were againt the North.  Also, there was no slaves who had to be freed in the North.

  After the country was reunited, most of the black people were in lower class. It was said that the black and the white were equal, however, in reality, the black were still discriminated.
