A professor from Kyonggi University said "Dr. Hwang fell into a trap of conspiracy"

Denouncing MBC broadcasting company and its program, PD Memo, which originally raised a doubt about the authenticity of Dr. Hwang’s paper published in Science magazine last May, Ko Jun Hwan, a law professor from Kyonggi university alleged that Dr. Hwang had fallen into a trap of conspiracy organized by Rho sung-il,  Director of Mizmedi hospital and religious community against him.  His allegation is likely to stir a big controversy.

He put up an article entitled “to Dr. Hwang fallen into a trap” on the Internet on December 19, 2005. 

“It seems that at first, MBC tried to bring Dr. Hwang down by revealing the use of illegal eggs for the research but only failed to do so.   Subsequently, MBC tried again with a paper published in Science magazine last May claiming that Dr. Hwang had fabricated some facts.

After apologizing MBC proposed to set up a Hwang woo-suk’s sponsoring foundation. Therefore, it should be MBC to be investigated not Dr. Hwang.” he alleged.

“We have to wait for the results of ongoing probe for the truth, however, I suspect influential back-room manipulators must be plotting a conspiracy against Dr. Hwang. In order not to fall in a trap in the future, we have to keep an eye out for the US and the UK, who are vying for biotechnological supremacy.  Furthermore, in the world of irrational devotion, we must watch out for biased critics and jealous competitors and take prudent action. 

He also mentioned that since both Catholic and Christian leaders strongly opposed Dr. Hwang’s stem cell research, they might be behind this conspiracy against Dr. Hwang as well.

 He continued saying that “Rho sung-il, Director of Mizmedi set up “M” company, a therapeutic center for embryonic stem cell with the help of a joint investment of 20 billion Korean Won financed by the US Department of Health.  Rho sung-il, the reportedly suspected whistle-blower, struck a fatal blow to Dr, Hwang at the press conference saying that all 11 embryonic stem cells that Dr. Hwang’s research team had created were fake. 

 However, 83 per cent of the population would trust Dr. Hwang to the end.  This is amazing.  Sooner or later all doubts about Dr. Hwang will change into admiration for him” He said, “after the storm comes the calm. Every cloud has a silver lining.” Dr. Hwang must take this opportunity to set up global standards in biotechnology so the world will take an example from Korea.  

All Koreans wish that Dr. Hwang would pursue his research and become the world leader in biotechnology. I also hope that Koreans intentionally or unintentionally entangled in this plot against Dr. Hwang should finally see the truth and find peace of mind. He added.On the phone interview, professor Ko stated “he has no doubt about Dr. Hwang’s integrity” and also asserted that “ a power game between US and UK over enormous interests in biotechnology, their rivalry for leadership, and the ethical issue led to Dr. Hwang’s scandal.”

경기대 고준환 법학과 교수가 황우석 교수 사태와 관련 MBC와 PD수첩을 비난하면서 노성일 미즈메디 병원 이사장과 종교계 등의 음모설을 거론하며 황 교수가 덫에 걸렸다고 주장해 파장이 일 것으로 보인다.

고 교수는 ‘덫에 걸린 황우석 교수님에게’라는 글을 19일 인터넷에 올렸다.

그는 이 글에서 “MBC는 처음에 난자 윤리문제로 황 교수님을 죽이려(?) 했지만, 그것이 안되자 2005년 사이언스 지에 실린 논문을 가지고 다시 작업에 들어간 것으로 보인다”며 “MBC는 사과 방송 후 황 교수에게 황우석 후원 재단 설립을 제의하기도 한 바, 정말 검증 받아야 할 곳은 황 교수가 아니라 MBC”라고 주장했다.

 이어 그는 “확실한 것은 수사결과를 지켜봐야 알겠지만, 이번 사태에는 거대한 배후세력의 음모가 덫을 놓은 게 아닌가 생각된다”며 “그래서 덫에 걸리지 않기 위하여 유의할 점은, 생명과학의 강국인 미국, 영국등의 기술패권 주의를 경계해야 하고, 물신숭배주의 속에서 주변의 질시적 비판자나 경쟁자들을 눈여겨보고, 잘 포용해 나가야 할 것”이라고 말했다.

황 교수 사태에 밑바닥에는 천주교와 기독교 간부들의 반대가 있다고도 언급했다.

또 고 교수는 “노성일 원장 등은 미보건국의 지원을 받고 200억 합작 투자로 배아줄기세포연구 치료 센터인 M사를 별도로 설립했다”며 “의혹의 핵으로 떠오른 미즈메디 병원 노성일 위원장이 느닷없이 황 교수님의 뒤통수를 치는 기자회견을 통해 ‘11개의 줄기세포가 가짜’라고 했어도, 우리 국민의 83%는 황 교수님을 끝까지 믿어보자고 했다. 이것은 놀라운 신뢰다. 머지않아 의심의 눈초리가 찬탄의 눈초리로 바뀔 것”이라고 말했다.

고 교수는 19일 고뉴스와의 전화통화에서도 “나는 황우석 교수의 기본적인 진실성을 의심하지 않는다”고 말하면서 “이번 황우석 교수 사태는 막대한 이권, 영국과 미국의 주도권 다툼, 종교문제 등을 놓고 벌이는 파워 게임”이라고 주장했다.

On the phone interview, professor Ko stated “he has no doubt about Dr. Hwang’s integrity” and also asserted that “ a power game between US and UK over enormous interests in biotechnology, their rivalry for leadership, and the ethical issue led to Dr. Hwang’s scandal.”
