Wavelength Practice and Shin-Chim (Vipassana- Acupuncture, 신침) Practice: How Nature Teaches Humanity
1. Human Practice: Learning from Nature
For a long time, human beings have observed their breathing and the changes in their bodies, learning about life from nature. Even about 3,000 years ago, this learning had already been passed down through generations.
Some people observed the changes within themselves one by one. Others followed a single movement deeply, seeking to recognize the flow of the whole within it.
In the 21st century, Wavelength Practice first appeared as a way for nature to teach human beings directly. Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu reveals and systematizes it as a practice experienced through the body.
2. Wavelength Practice: An Ongoing Dialogue and Promise with Nature
Nature has a flow in which things appear, grow, change, and disappear. This flow is clearly present in inhaling and exhaling, day and night, the seasons, and the course of birth, aging, illness, and death.
Wavelength Practice is the movement of sensing and following nature’s flow through the body. It is the foundation of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu training, including KiMu and Shin-Chim.
Wavelength Practice is an ongoing exchange of questions and answers between nature and human beings. Practitioners ask with their bodies and minds, receive nature’s messages through breathing and movement, and respond in turn. This is a wordless dialogue and a promise with nature.
Wavelength Practice itself—recognizing and following nature’s flow—is Follow the Energy. Its meaning cannot be understood through explanation alone.
It becomes clear through moving, feeling, and reflecting on one’s own experience.
3. KiMu Practice: Wavelength Movement Through Circular Motion and the Kinetic Chain
When a point moves around a circle, tracing its height over time produces a wave.
Changing the size of the circle changes the wave’s amplitude;
changing the speed of rotation changes its rhythm.
This image helps explain how movements in KiMu connect and change.
KiMu Practice is part of Wavelength Practice. As a foot presses against the ground and the body’s center shifts, movement travels through the pelvis, trunk, shoulder, elbow, and wrist to the tip of the sword.
This connection is the kinetic chain.
A small rotation beginning at the body’s center connects with the movement of each part and traces a wider path at the sword tip.
These circles do not move separately. Breathing and the shifting of the body’s center bring the whole body into one flow.
At the foundation of Wavelength Practice is a body that moves of its own accord. Even while learning KiMu movements, practitioners observe each moment as movement begins, expands, changes direction, and leads into the next action.
They do not wait until a movement is finished to reflect on it. They notice each change immediately, as though observing themselves from a third-person perspective.
By sensing and following movement instead of forcing it, they learn Wavelength Practice through direct bodily experience.
Circular motion shows where movement begins. The kinetic chain shows how it connects through the body.
The wave shows the rhythm of that movement as it unfolds over time. KiMu is a practice of experiencing this process through the body and following nature’s flow.
Reflection, determination, and gratitude in KiMu meditation are also part of this dialogue with nature.
Reflection means looking honestly at the present state of one’s body and mind.
Determination means putting what one has recognized into practice in training and daily life.
Gratitude means receiving nature’s teaching with an open heart.
4. Shin-Chim: Expressing Wavelength Practice Through a Tool
Shin-Chim Practice is grounded in Wavelength Practice. It expresses the flow of nature learned through the body by using an acupuncture needle as a tool. Although a needle is used, the foundation of the practice lies in recognizing and following nature’s flow. The tool may change, but the principle the practitioner follows remains the same.
This is why I named Shin-Chim Vipassana-Acupuncture in English. The name refers to more than the technique of placing needles. It describes a practice of experiencing and reflecting on nature’s messages through Wavelength Practice, with the aim of awakening and a change in consciousness.
5. The Ultimate Aim of Human Life: Spiritual Growth
Wavelength Practice is the foundation. KiMu is a way to learn it through the body, and Shin-Chim is a way to use a tool upon that foundation.
The purpose of practice is to realize nature’s principles directly and bring about a change in consciousness.
Healing is a result that may follow along the way. Health and happiness, too, may come as gifts while walking this path.
When we continue to ask nature, experience its answers through the body, and reflect on ourselves, Wavelength Practice extends beyond training into daily life.
In this way, human beings transform their consciousness and move ceaselessly toward the ultimate goal of life, right up to the very end.
This is the task we must fulfill and the learning we must undertake throughout our lives.
If we stray from this path, the greater the gap between the principles of nature and the way we live, the greater the discomfort, hardship, struggle, and pain we experience until we depart this life.
This relationship can be expressed as follows:
The right path (the principles of nature) − My actual life (my thoughts, actions, and words) = The gap
This gap reflects how far my way of living has strayed from the principles of nature.
Ultimately, we become entangled in the very path we have spent our lives creating. We struggle within it, and when our time comes, we must inevitably depart.
