Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
- 잘 들어라, 내 아들들아, 아버지의 교훈을; 주의하면 깨달음을 얻는다.
instruction n. 교훈, 교육. attention n. 주의, 유의.
pay attention : 주의하다, 유의하다. gain v. 얻다.
understanding n. 이해(력), 깨달음.
I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.
- 내가 너희에게 건전한 배움을 주니, 내 가르침을 내버리지 말라.
sound a. 건전한. learning n. 배움.
forsake v. 내버리다, 내버려두다.
When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother,
- 내가 내 아버지의 집에서 소년이었을 때, 여전히 어리고, 내 어머니의 유일한 자식 이었을 때,
still ad. 여전히, 아직. tender a. 상냥한; 어린, 미숙한.
only a. 유일한.
he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands / and you will live.
- 그분은 내게 가르치고 말씀하셨다, “내 말들을 네 모든 마음으로 붙잡아라; 내 명령들을 지켜라 / 그러면 너는 살 것이다.
lay hold of : ~을 붙잡다. command n. 명령, 규율.
Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.
- 지혜를 얻어라, 깨달음을 얻어라; 내 말들을 잊거나 또는 그것들로부터 벗어나지 말라.
swerve v. 벗어나다. (from).
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
- 지혜를 내버리지 말라, 그러면 지혜(she)가 너를 보호할 것이다; 지혜를 사랑하라, 그러면 지혜가 너를 돌봐줄 것이다.
protect v. 보호하다. watch v. 지켜보다.
watch over : ~을 돌보다, 지키다.
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
- 지혜는 최고의 것이다; 그럼으로 지혜를 얻어라. 비록 네가 가진 모든 비용이 들 지라도, 깨달음을 얻어라.
supreme a. 최고의, 최상의. therefore conj. 그럼으로.
though conj. 비록 ~일 지라도. cost v. ~의 비용이 들다.
Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
- 지혜를 존경하라, 그러면 지혜가 너를 높일 것이다; 지혜를 받아들여라, 그러면 지혜가 너를 명예롭게 할 것이다.
esteem v. 존경하다, 존중하다.
exalt v. ~을 높이다, 승진시키다.
embrace v. 포옹하다; 받아들이다, 환영하다.
honor v. ~을 명예롭게 하다.
She will set a garland of grace on your head / and present you with a crown of splendor."
- 지혜(she)는 우아한 화관을 네 머리에 씌울 것이고 / 너에게 빛나는 왕관을 선물할 것이다.
garland n. 화관.
grace n. 우아함, 품위; 은총.
present v. 선물하다, 증정하다.
splendor n. 빛남, 광휘, 광채.
Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
- 잘 들어라, 내 아들아, 내가 말한 것을 받아들어라, 그러면 네 생명의 세월들이 많아질 것이다(오래 살 것이다).
accept v. 받아들이다.
I guide you in the way of wisdom / and lead you along straight paths.
- 내가 지혜에 대하여 너를 가르치고 / 일직선의 길을 따라 너를 인도하니.
guide v. 안내하다, 가르치다.
in the way of~ : ~에 대하여.
lead v. 이끌다, 인도하다.
along prep. ~을 따라.
straight a. 곧은, 일직선의.
path n. 길.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
- 네가 걸을 때, 네 발걸음이 방해받지 않을 것이고; 네가 달릴 때, 너는 넘어지지 않을 것이다.
step n. 발걸음, 한 발짝.
hamper v. 방해하다.
stumble v. 넘어지다.
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
- 교훈을 붙잡고 있어라(단단히 지켜라), 그것이 가버리게 하지 말아라; 그것을 잘 지켜라, 그것은 네 생명이기 때문이다.
hold on to : ~을 붙잡다.
guard v. ~을 지키다.
well ad. 잘, 꽤.
Do not set foot on the path of the wicked / or walk in the way of evil men.
- 사악한 사람들의 길 위로 발을 들이지 말라 또는 / 나쁜 사람들의 길에서 걷지 말라.
set foot on : ~에 발을 들이다. wicked a. 사악한.
evil a. 나쁜, 사악한.
Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.
- 그것(악한 자들의 길)을 피하라, 그것 위에서 여행하지 말라; 그것으로부터 돌아서서 네 길을 계속 가거라.
avoid v. ~을 피하다. travel v. 여행하다.
turn from : ~로부터 돌아서다.
go on : 계속 진행하다.
For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.
- 그들(악인)은 사악함을 행할 때까지 잠을 잘 수 없고; 그들은 누군가를 떨어뜨릴 때까지 잠을 빼앗기기 때문이다(잠을 잘 수 없기 때문이다).
rob A of B : A에게서 B를 빼앗다, 강탈하다.
slumber n. 잠, 선잠, 짧은 잠.
They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
- 그들은 사악함의 빵을 먹고 폭력의 포도주를 마신다.
wickedness n. 사악함. 악함.
violence n. 폭력.
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
- 올바른 사람들의 길은 새벽녘의 첫 빛과 같고, 낮의 완전한 빛이 있을 때까지 더 밝게 빛난다.
gleam n. 약한 빛, 미광. dawn n. 새벽, 새벽녘.
shin v. 빛나다. till conj. ~때 까지.
But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
- 그러나 사악한 사람들의 길은 깊은 어둠과 같아서; 그들은 무엇이 그들이 넘어지게 만드는지 알지 못한다.
deep a. 깊은.
stumble v. 넘어지다.
My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.
- 내 아들아, 내가 말한 것에 주의해라; 내 말들에 가깝게 귀 기울여라.
pay attention to : ~에 주의하다.
Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
- 그것들(내 말들)이 네 시야 밖으로 나가게 하지 말라, 그것들을 네 가슴속에 간직하라;
sight n. 시야.
keep v. 간직하다, 지키다.
for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body.
- 왜냐하면 내 말들(they)은 그것들을 찾는 사람에게 생명이 되고 / 사람의 몸 전체에 건강이 되기 때문이다.
whole a. 전체의.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
- 그 무엇보다도, 네 마음을 지켜라, 그것은 생명의 샘물이기 때문이다.
above all else : 그 무엇보다도.
wellspring n. 샘, 샘물.
Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
- 네 입으로부터 심술을 버려라; 타락한 말을 네 입술로부터 멀리 유지해라.
put away : 버리다.
perversity n. 심술궂음.
perverse a. 심술궂은.
corrupt a. 타락한, 부도덕한.
far from : ~로부터 먼.
lip n. 입술.
Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.
- 네 눈이 앞쪽으로 똑바르게 보도록 해라, 네 시선을 바로 네 앞으로 고정시켜라.
straight a. 똑바른, 일직선의.
ahead ad. 앞으로, 앞쪽으로.
fix v. 고정시키다.
gaze n. 응시; 시선.
Make level paths for your feet / and take only ways that are firm.
- 네 발걸음을 위한 평탄한 길을 만들고 / 단단한 길만을 취해라.
level a. 평평한, 수평의.
firm a. 단단한, 굳은.
Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
- 오른쪽 또는 왼쪽으로 벗어나지 말라; 사악으로부터 네 발걸음을 지켜라.
swerve v. 벗어나다.
