  1. Verse of the Day

  For you know that 1)it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way

of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

  너희가 아는 바와 같이, 너희 선조들로부터 물려받은 허무한 삶의 길로부터 구원받은 것은, 금은같은 없어질 것으로 된 것이 아니요, 아무 흠이나 점도 없는 어린양, 그리스도의 값진 피로 된 것이라.      —베드로전서 1:18-19

  ▶ Words & Phrases

  1) it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way

  - 이 구문은 it be ~ that 강조구문으로서 강조된 부분은 부사구 "not with perishable things such as silver or gold"임

  - 또한 이 구문은 not A but B(A가 아니라 B) 구문인데 본문에서는 not with A but with B형태로 쓰임 

→위 문장을 강조구문 이전으로 바꾸면

   you 1)were redeemed from the empty way of life which was handed down to you from your forefathers not with

2)perishable things such as silver or gold but with the precious blood of 3)Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect

   1) be redeemed : 구원받다

   2) perishable [périʃəbl] : 썪기 쉬운, 소멸하기 쉬운, 영속하지 않는

   3) Christ = a lamb without blemish or defect

    - blemish : 결점, 흠

    - defect [díːfekt , difékt] : 결함

  A: 얼마나 들었대요? B: 어떤 거요? 이 오래된 것 말씀인가요? 뼈, 피, 뇌로 된 가방같고, 안쪽에는 심장, 마음, 영혼이 살고 있는 것 말인가요? A: 네, 맞아요! 값을 얼마나 냈냐구요? B: 대가를 다 치르고 온전히 다시 찾아오기 위해서는, 하늘나라의 가장 큰 선물 값을 다 지출해야 했어요. 이건, 하나님께서 나를 엄청나게 소중히 생각하신거예요. 엄청난 일이예요! 안 그래요?

    - whole [houl] : 전인적인, (육체적으로) 건전[건강]한; 원래대로의

  2) That's how much God thinks of me.

    - think much of ~ : ~을 소중히 여기다  / 본문에서는 much가 how에 이끌리어 감

  3) incredible [inkrédəbl]: 엄청난, 놀라운, 믿을 수 없는

  3. My Prayer

  Father, I 1)am bewildered, 2)humbled, and 3)thrilled to know that you 4)value me so highly. Forgive me for 5)cheapening myself with sin, for 6)dwelling on things that are petty, and for 7)chasing after things that are worthless. Thank you for

loving me so. By your Spirit, please help me 8)live up to the value you see in me and 9)aspire to the 10)lofty life you call

me to live. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

  아버지, 제 값어치를 그렇게 많이 쳐주신다는 것을 알게 되니, 혼란스럽고, 겸손해지고, 감격하게 됩니다. 저 자신이 죄악들로 나를 값싸게 만들어버리고, 하찮은 것들에 연연해하며 살고, 무익한 것들을 쫒아다닌 것을 용서해주세요. 많이 사랑해주셔서 감사합니다. 아버지의 영으로 저를 도와주셔서, 주님께서 제 안에 찾으시는 가치관 수준만큼 높은 삶을 살도록, 또 주님께서 요구하시는 고결한 삶의 열망을 품을 수 있도록 해주세요. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
