Nice to meet you again!
I absolutely agree with you that surveillance camera may hurt people's privacy.
But British government have not installed cameras in the very private places such as restroom or showeroom to peep at person's secreat life.
Where they've installed was public places like a street, shopping center, airport, and sub-way....
I think neither the English nor I would accept to install surveillance camera in such a confidential area.
Better to use the words 'Surveillance camera' rather than 'hidden or spy camera', in Brithish case, I think.
I am not in favor of your opinion to support installing secrete spy cameras in public places indiscreetly for surveillance against crimes and terror. In that case, I am afreid, personal privacy will be seriously infringed and the nation can be like a prison.
In the other day, one famous department store in Seoul had installed secrete spy camera to the ladie's rooms amd brought on big pulic criticism. The person in charge of it elucidated they had installed in order to keep watch over frequent theft. Nonetheless, public angry voice did not calm down soon.
The fundamental causes of nowadays crimes and terorrism are very complicated and subtle. I think we can not prevent or avoid modern crimes and terror by only increasing surveillances.

I saw CBS News tonight reporting about surveillant camera in Britan.
English government installed millions of spy cameras in the street, sub-way,
shopping center, and parking lot...to catch terriorists.
These CCTV(closed circuit TV) aimed at sorting out mainly terriorists
but many privacy experts were worring about interrupting individual's private life.
However, many Britisher didn't seem to mind at all. A reporter asked
questions about this hidden camera to the people on the street, but they
all welcomed for this system.
CBS also showed several criminals caught by this surveillant camera
like kid napper, bomber, and bank robbery....
Now America is trying to immitate British spy camera system into their country.
It's already installed in Baltimore, MD., Tampa, FL., and now Los Angeles,CA.
is trying to install the CCTV in the street.
There were many pros and cons toward this system.
As all you know, this could reduce great deal of the street violation and terror.
But the major concern for this spy camera in the public place was that, reporter said,
police could destroy private life easily because they could zoom in and out lenses to catch
such as illigal parking or expired car registration which is a very private fatcor.
If I were under this circumstance,I wound'nt mind losing a little bit of my invasion of privacy,
if the hidden camera really could clear up the street criminals as well as
terriorists like Great Britain.
How about you?...
