Police have identified the gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia
Tech before turning the gun on himself as 23-year-old South Korean student Cho Seung-Hui.

The campus is still reeling from Monday's rampage, the deadliest school shooting incident in U.S. history.

School President Charles Steger called the killings "a tragedy of monumental proportions."

식구 달랑 3명
낮 부터 늦은 밤까지 우리는 CNN뉴스를 보며 범인은 누구일까?
한국 유학생이 아닐까?
만약 한국 유학생이라면 ... 그 다음 그림들을 그려 보기도 했다.

대학 3년 딸 아이
다음 달 당장 유니세프 인턴 사원 면접을 해야 하는데
고등 학교 11학년 아들 아이
이번 가을이면 대학 입학 원서를 접수를 해야 하는데
그 불이익
마침 발 아래 떨어진 것 처럼 걱정을 했었다

화요일  새벽

눈을 뜨자마자 컴을 켜고 티비를 켜고 범인이 누구인지 체크를 했다.
그런데 그 걱정이 현실로 다가 왔다..

죽은 이를 생각하며 가슴 아픈 그들에게 애도를 뒤로 밀쳐 두고
우리 식구 셋 당장 미국에서 살아가야 할 일을 걱정 했었다

이기적이고 개인적인 생각들로  어지러웠다.

솔직하게 이야기 하자면 학교를 가는 동안 이런 저런 생각을 하며

만약 어느 누군가가 물으면
"당분간은 '나는 한국인이다' 말하지 말자
외국인들은 아시안을 보면 한국인인지 중국인인지 일본인인지
베트남인인지 구별 할 수 없으니..상황에 따라 중국인양 일본인양 베트남인양.하자 "
이렇듯 절박한 심정이었다.

화요일 오후

이런 절박한 맘을 읽었는지 선생님이 위로의  말을 건넌다.

범인이 한국인이다. 그러나 너가 범인이 아니잖아

전체 한국 유학생들의 문제가 아니지 않느냐
사람은 누구나 다 폭력을 쓰고 총을 쏘을 수 있다
하지만 그것을 행동으로 나타내지 않을 뿐이다
만약 자유롭게 총을 살 수 없다면 이 일은 일어 났을까?
총을 사용 할 수 있는 허용이 주어지는 날까지
언제든지 미국사회에서 일어날 수 있고
한국에서는 가능한 일이냐  되레 묻는다 
그러니 절대 부끄러워 할 이유가 없다고 한다

한 사람이 가진 비뚤어진  행동이 가져온 사건이라며

난폭한,폭력적인 영화  폭력 장면이 많은 게임

심하고,극단적인 티비장면...

violent 심각성에 대한 이야기로 이어 나갔다

화요일 늦은 오후

수업을 마치고

운전을 하며 옆 차 운전자를 슬그머니 본다

차안 밀러로 뒷 차 운전자를 슬그머니 본다

혹시 나를 쳐다보며 경멸하는 눈초리를 보내지 않을까

모든것이 짐스럽다

시간이 흐르면서
지금 당장 우리 셋식구가 당할 눈에 보이지 않을 보복 테러
불이익 차가운 눈초리 ... 감당 해야 할 일이 너무나 크다..

시간이 흐르면서 드는 생각
내가 중국인양 일본인양 베트남인양 잠시 잠깐 탈 바꿈을 한다고
해서.. 나는 중국인이 될 수 없고 일본인이 될 수 없다는 것이다..

대량 학살을 감행한 그가 한국인 이라는것

나도 한국인... 범인이 누구이든지... 그것이 중요 한 것이 아니다

처음 건네는 말이 "마음이 너무 무겁고 힘들다." 다

그리고 어떤 말도 하지 않고.. 뉴스에 귀 기울이고 있다

아들 어깨가 정말 무거워 보인다...

저녁 8시 집으로 돌아 올 딸아이는 어떤 모습일까? 걱정이 앞선다.

충격과 허탈감에 빠진 나의 아들 딸.. 그리고 교민들
엄청난 충격과 마음의 상처를 입은 미국인들

나 스스로에게 말을 한다.

"I want to end greed!!!!"

"We must be peaceful!!!"

지금 당장은  딸아이 아들아이와 함께
이 어려움을 슬기롭게 극복해 나가고 싶을 뿐이다..

A day after the worst shooting in U.S. history, which claimed 33 lives,

the Virginia Tech community was dealing with its loss, holding memorials and prayer services.

Meanwhile, police identified Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a Virginia Tech student,

as the gunman who killed 30 people at Virginia Tech's Norris Hall before turning the gun on himself.

Two others were killed earlier at a dormitory

which was held in the university's Cassell Coliseum.

Student Emily Alderman said students were sending instant messages urging each other

to wear their Virginia Tech gear as a sign of unity.

Some windows on the second story of Norris Hall remain open a day after students jumped through them

as the gunman opened fire, according to local reports.

Joe Librescu told The Associated Press his father, Liviu Librescu, a 76-year-old professor,

"blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee" when danger erupted.

"Students started opening windows and jumping out," the younger Librescu said. Professor Librescu was killed.

미국대학에서 한국학생들 걱정하는 메일 받고 감동

전 미국 대학에 교환학생으로 와 있는데요..

총기난사 범인이 한국인인게 알려지고 나서

미국 학생들한테 혹시 나쁜 소리 듣지는 않을까 하루종일 긴장됐어요.

그리고 같은 한국 사람으로서 죄책감에 마음도 무겁고...

처음에는 크게 생각 안했는데, 나중에 보니 신문마다 전부 대서특필이고

학교 홈페이지 대문에도 버지니아 학생 추모하는 글을 크게 실었더라구요.

그런데 오늘 학교에서 전체 메일을 돌렸네요.

이번 일로 한국 학생들이 피해를 보지 않도록 각별히 주의해 달라고..

그리고 혹시나 버지니아 공대 사건으로 인해서 한국 학생들에게 문제가 생기면

학교측에 즉시 연락하라고 office hour 랑 연락가능한 모든 전화번호를 적어뒀는데

아... 학교의 이런 세심한 배려가 참 고맙네요.

또 한국에 있는 가족들에게 안전하다고 연락하는걸 권장한다고

한국 부모님들 걱정까지 ..

한국인으로서 미국에 유학하고 있는 학생들의 경우 여러상황이 불리하게 작용할 우려를 갖는 것도 일리는 있을수 있으나 총기난사의 범인은 미국인이다. 한국국적을 가진 한국유학생이 아님을 확실히 해야 하고 미국의 언론도 그점을 확실히 구분해서 밝혀야 한다. 어찌 그가 남한인인가 미국인이지. 그들이 만든 문화의 소산이지 다른곳에서 이유를 찾으려 한다면 그것은 착오를 만들뿐이리라 생각한다. 한국에서는 자유로히 무기를 사고 파는 것이 허용된 나라가 아니다. 그들은 미국의 이익을 위하여 일하는 미국의 시민이라는 사실을 잊지 말아야 할 것이다. 자료 감사합니다.
