Now the watermelons were to be judged on shape and size. Everyone prepared to congratulate him, and he was prepared to accept his first place award as the judges cut into his watermelon. It was then that the farmer. along with the judges and the people of the Community. saw that the watermelon was over two-thirds -rind. You see. the calcium in the milk that the farmer put in the soil had caused the rind of the watermelon to Brow to enormous proportions. leaving very little room for the fruit of the watermelon to develop. The watermelon got the benefits of the milk. but had no other source .rind(과일 등의)껍질 of nourishment

농부는 그것을 시도해 보기로 했다. 그래서 매일 아침 자기 식구들이 깨기 전에 농부는 몰래 발으로 들어가서 흙에 우유를 붓곤 했다. 채배 시기가 끝날 무렵 농부는 수박의 크기에. 특히 그중 하나의 크기에 놀랐다. 분명히 이 수박은 그에게 품평회에서 1등상을 안겨 줄 것이었다 품평회에서 그 지방 사람들은 수박 전시회에 모여 농부 가 경연 대회에 출품한 거대한 수박을 경외의 눈으로 바 라보았다. 이제 수박들은 모양과 크기로 판정받게 될 것 이다. 심사위원들이 그의 수박을 자를 때 모두는 그를 축 하할 준비가. 그리고 그는 1등상을 받을 준비가 되어 있 있다. 그 농부가 심사위원 및 그 자방 사람들과 함께 그 수박의 3분의 2가 넘는 부분이 껍질이라는 것을 알게 된 것은 바로 그때였다. 알다시피. 농부가 휴에 부은 우유에 들어 있는 칼슘이 수박 껍질을 엄청난 비율로 자라게 해 서 수박 과육이 발달할 자리를 거의 남겨 두지 않았던 것이다. 수박은 우유의 이점을 얻었지만 다른 영양분을 얻지는 못했다.
