두렵고 떨리는 소식

막16:8“여자들이 몹시 놀라 떨며 나와 무덤에서 도망하고 무서워하여 아무에게 아무 말도 하지 못하더라”

십자가에 달려 죽임을 당하신 예수님 몸에 향품을 발라드리려고 무덤을 찾아갔던 여인들은 텅 빈 무덤 안에서 흰 옷 입은 한 청년이 전해준 예수님 부활의 소식을 들었습니다. “놀라지 말라 너희가 십자가에 못 박히신 나사렛 예수를 찾는구나 그가 살아나셨고 여기 계시지 아니하니라 보라 그를 두었던 곳이니라”

처음 부활의 소식을 들은 여인들은 몹시 놀라 떨며 나와 무덤에서 도망하고 두려움으로 아무에게 아무 말도 못했습니다. 예수님의 부활 소식이 여인들에게 엄청난 충격을 주었던 것입니다. 갈릴리에서부터 예수님을 따르며 섬겼던 여인들, 십자가 밑에서 예수님의 죽음을 지켜보았고, 예수님을 장사지낸 곳을 보았던 여인들입니다.

무엇이 여인들을 그토록 혼비백산하게 만들었습니까? 예수님께서 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나심은 예수님을 십자가에 못 박혀 죽게 한 이 세상의 권세가 심판받아야 함을 뜻했기 때문입니다.

“심판에 대하여라 함은 이 세상 임금이 심판을 받았음이라” 요16:11 

그 누구도 대적할 수 없다고 여겨졌던 세상의 권세가 예수님의 부활로 말미암아 심판받았습니다.

세상의 권세를 심판하신 예수님의 부활 소식은 여인들을 사시나무 떨듯 떨게 만들었습니다. 이것보다 더 충격적인 소식이 없었습니다. 예수님의 죽음으로 체념과 슬픔에 잠겨 있었던 여인들은 세상이 천지개벽되는 충격으로 아무 말도 할 수 없었습니다.

“세상에서는 너희가 환난을 당하나 담대하라 내가 세상을 이겼노라” 요16:33

로마 제국의 국교로 공인된 후 기독교는 핍박받던 자리에서 권력을 누리는 자리로 바뀌었습니다. 중세기 유럽의 기독교는 세상 권력의 중심에 있었습니다. 이런 경향은 정도의 차이는 있었지만 지금까지 변하지 않고 있습니다. 기독교는 권력과 타협하면서 세상 권력의 편에 서기를 주저하지 않았습니다.

기독교는 세상의 권세, 재물, 명예를 택하였고, 세상 권세에 의해 죽임을 당하신 예수님 편에 서기를 꺼렸습니다. 예수님 부활 소식의 예리함은 사라지고 말았습니다. 예수님의 십자가는 황금으로 장식되었습니다. 험한 십자가는 부드러운 십자가로 바뀌었습니다. 험한 십자가는 더 이상 사랑의 대상이 아닙니다.

생명의 주님을 모시고 사는 사람은 이제부터 두려움과 떨림으로 “예수님의 치욕을 짊어지고 영문 밖으로 그에게 나아갑니다.” 히13:13

“만일 그리스도 안에서 우리의 바라는 것이 다만 이생뿐이면 모든 사람 가운데 우리가 더욱 불쌍한 자이리라” 고전15:19 

믿는 자의 자리는 이 세상과 대척점이 되는 자리입니다.

무덤을 찾아갔던 여인들을 그토록 두려움으로 떨게 만들었던 예수님의 부활 소식은 막강한 세상 권세를 이기신 예수님 승리의 소식이었습니다. 예수님 부활을 믿는 사람들은 예수님 편에 서기를 두려워하지 않습니다.

“무릇 하나님께로부터 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라” 요일5:4

“또 아는 것은 우리는 하나님께 속하고 이 세상은 악한 자 안에 처한 것이며” 요일5:19

“내 백성아 너희는 거기서 나와 그의 죄에 참여하지 말고 그가 받을 재앙들을 받지 말라” 

계18:4 

세속사의 중심에 세상의 권세가 있습니다. 불의한 세상에서 나와 하나님께 속한 백성으로 사는 자들만이 장차 주님 오시는 날 주님 영광의 몸의 형체와 같이 변하게 되는 영광을 누리게 될 것입니다. 그런데 오늘도 사람들은 예수님 부활 소식에 귀 기울이기를 거부하고 “세상이나 세상에 있는 것들을 사랑하며” 세상 편에서 살아가고 있습니다. 23. 4. 15 장기옥 목사 드림

The message of fear and trembling

Mark 16:8“So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Those women who went to the tomb to anoint Him who had been crucified heard the message of resurrection of Jesus, which a young man who clothed in a long white robe said to them in a vacant tomb. “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here, See the place where they laid Him.”

“This message of resurrection made the women to go out quickly and flee from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.” Jesus’ resurrection shocked them very strongly. These women followed Jesus to serve His companions from Galilee. They watched His death under the cross and later also His tomb.

What made them fall into ecstasy to say nothing to anyone? For His resurrection from the dead meant the worldly power which had Him crucified on the cross to be judged. “of judgement, because the ruler of this world is judged.” John16:11 The power of this world which was thought nobody stood against was judged by the resurrection of Jesus.

The message of Jesus’ resurrection which has judged the power of this world made the women tremble severely. There was no more shocking news than this. The women who had been fallen into despair and sorrow by Jesus’ death could say nothing to anyone by such shock as the new creation of heaven and earth. “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John16:33

After the Christianity got the official recognition by the Roman empire, it was changed from the position of being persecution to enjoying the power. The European Christianity in the medieval history stood in the middle of the worldly power. Such tendency is not changed until now though there was a difference in degree. The Christianity compromised with the worldly power and did not hesitate to stand for it.

The Christianity chose the power, wealth and fame of the world and disliked to stand at the side of Christ who died by the worldly power. The shrewd message of Jesus’ resurrection disappeared. The cross of Jesus was ornamented with gold. The rugged cross was changed into the soft one. We do not love any more the rugged cross.

Those people who accept and serve the Prince of life “go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach”(Heb.13:13) with fear and trembling from now on. “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” 1Cor.15:19 The believers’ dwelling place is in the antipode of this world.

This message of Jesus’ resurrection which made the women tremble with fear was the message of Jesus’ victory over the worldly power. Whoever believes Jesus’ resurrection is not afraid of being with Jesus. “Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.” 1John5:4

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” 1John5:19“ And I heard another voice from heaven saying ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest receive of her plagues.” Rev.18:4 The worldly power is the core of the worldly history. Those people who come out of Babylon, this world, and are of God will get the glory to be transformed such as His glorious body. But these days the people reject to listen to the message of Jesus’ resurrection and “love the world or the things in the world” and live in the side of the world. 15. April. 2023
