In Cho Jang, the line “The burden on my back is a yoke, crushing me like fate” emphasizes how the burden of life feels inevitable, like fate. Here, “burden” and “yoke” are tools that make the weight and responsibility of life physically felt, symbolizing the burden of life that an individual must bear. It signifies how difficult it is to carry a heavy load, and the metaphor effectively conveys how life's difficulties accumulate on an individual.
In JoongJang, “Footprints in the sand are the weight of life” symbolizes how footprints left in the sand hold the weight of life within them. It represents the traces of life and its weight in time and space, with the footprints representing the trajectory of a past life and the weight symbolizing the experiences and emotions contained within.
In the final JongJang, the phrase “The waves wash away the regrets” depicts a scene where the waves wash away the painful weight of life. Kim's Sijo conveys deep emotions through metaphor and symbolism. The contrast between the images of the back and the yoke, the footsteps and the waves, and the weight of life and the comfort of nature are contrasted. These figurative expressions leave a stronger impression on the reader than direct emotions, and the poetic imagery stimulates the reader's emotions.
