1. Prosecutors are now investigating Ex-President Moon’s accounts to probe son-in-law’s unfair hiring
Following a report by YP News, prosecutors are investigating the bank accounts of former President Moon Jae-In and his wife. This investigation comes in connection with an ongoing probe into employment irregularities involving Mr. Seo, their son-in-law, at an airline company.
Prosecutors, the Jeonju District Prosecutor’s Criminal Division 3 recently executed a search warrant to trace financial transactions in their accounts. This step indicates that prosecutors are attempting to uncover details about potential financial support provided to their daughter. The investigation follows a four-year-old complaint related to Mr. Seo’s alleged unfair hiring advantage.
In September 2020, the People Power Party, the then-opposition, filed a complaint with prosecutors. The complaint was tied to Lee Sang-jik, the founder of Eastar Jet Airline, who had become the chairperson of the Korea SMEs Starts up Agency. Mr. Seo was employed as the managing director of Thai Eastar Jet Airline, a low-cost carrier founded by Lee.
Prior to his employment at the airline, Mr. Seo worked at a gaming company and lacked experience in the aviation industry. His hiring raised concerns due to the airline’s poor performance at the time and doubts about his qualifications for the director position. Prosecutors are now investigating whether there was illicit arrangement or improper conduct involving Mr. Seo and the airline
