보스톤헤럴드 Sox lock up Kim, Nixon: Still working on deal with Ortiz

앞으로 구라데이의 ‘이건 사건’ 의 향방외에는 스프링 트레이닝때까지는 별 뉴스가 없을 거 같습니다. 어제 헤럴드지에 병현선수의 연봉지급 액수가 나왔는데, 금년 400만불, 내년 600만불이라 하네요. 금년의 400만불에서 연봉은 300만불이고 계약 보너스 형태로 100만불을 지급합니다. 보너스가 사치세 총액에 안 들어가는지 잘 모르겠지만, 사치세를 피하려고 가능한 금년 연봉을 줄이려는 거 같네요.

계약 당일날 테오의 기자회견을 들어보니까, 병현선수에 대해 옹호도 많이하고, 테오의 병현선수에 대한 신뢰를 느낄 수 있었읍니다. 또 아래 오코스님이 자세하게 아로요에 대한 글을 해석해 주셨는데, 그글처럼 아로요에 대한 평가도 상당히 좋더군요. 여기엔 아로요 선수의 자질뿐아니라  보스톤의 자선행사나 캐러반행사 때마다 빠지지 않는 그의 선행도 한몫하는게 아닌가 하는 생각이 들더군요.

아로요가 6선발이라고 테오가  얘기하는데, 불펜에 있으면서 시즌중 선발의 부상이나 선발간격을 메울 필요가 있을때마다 출장하는 스윙맨으로 기용될 거 같습니다.

Sox lock up Kim, Nixon: Still working on deal with Ortiz

The Red Sox still have a number of significant contract issues facing them at the end of this year, but general manager Theo Epstein yesterday moved two steps closer to tying up the loose ends for the 2004 season by reaching agreements with a pair of arbitration-eligible players.

레드삭스는 올 년말에 그들이 당면한 몇몇 중요한 계약관련 일들이 있는데, 그러나 어제 테오단장은 중재조정자격이 있는 두 명의 선수들과 계약을 함으로써 2004년 시즌을 위한 끝마무리를 묶는 일에 두 발자욱 더 다가섰다.

     After days of discussions, the Red Sox announced the signing of pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim to a two-year contract and outfielder Trot Nixon to a one-year deal. While Nixon's deal is a one-year agreement worth $6.6 million that could be ripped up in favor of a three-year deal before spring training, Kim agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract that solidified his place as the team's No. 5 starter entering spring training.

며칠간의 협상끝에 레드삭스는 투수 BK와 2년계약을 맺었고 외야수 닉슨과 1년계약을 했다고 발표했다. 닉슨의 딜은 1년 660만불인데, 그것은 스프링 트레이닝 이전에 3년딜을 위해 떼어내질 수 있고, 김은 스프링 트레이닝에 들어가면서  팀의 5선발로의  입지를 굳힐 수 있는2년 1000만불에 계약을 했다.

     Kim's deal will pay him $4 million this year and $6 million in 2005. Part of the $4 million this season will come in the form of a signing bonus valued at slightly more than $1 million.

김의 딜은 그에게 금년에 400만불, 내년에 600만불을 지급한다. 금년 400만불의 일부분은 계약 보너스의 형태로 지급되는데 대략 100만불을 웃돈다.

     ``The arbitration process is part of the game,'' Epstein said, citing the impetus for the two deals. ``But I don't think it's anyone's favorite part of the game.''

이번 딜의 자극제였던 중재과정을 ‘그것은 게임의 일부분이다’ 라고 엡스타인은 얘기했다. 

‘그러나 누구나 다 게임의 그부분을 좋아하리라곤 생각지는 않는다.’

     Though the Sox still have one remaining arbitration-eligible player in designated hitter David Ortiz, the sides exchanged arbitration figures yesterday, as is required. With Ortiz filing at a reported $5 million and the Red Sox coming in at $4.25 million, the midpoint of $4.625 million stands as a realistic compromise.  With Epstein revealing the sides are currently focused on a one-year deal for Ortiz, the chances of an agreement seem highly probable before a hearing next month.

삭스는 아직 지명타자인 오티즈와의 연봉중재과정을 남겨놓고 있지만, 양측은 과정대로 서로 연봉액수를 어제 교환했다. 오티즈가 500만불, 삭스가 425만불인데, 그 중간점인 4.265 M 이 현실적인 타협점으로 보인다. 엡스타인은 현재 양측이 오티즈의 1년계약에 중점을 두고 있다고 밝혔는데, 다음달 청문회전까지 합의될 가능성이 높다.

       Kim, who turned 25 on Monday, went 8-5 with a 3.18 ERA and 16 saves (in 19 chances) for the Red Sox last season after being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in May for infielder Shea Hillenbrand. Despite Kim's struggles at the end of the season - on the field and off - Epstein promised during the American League Championship Series that Kim would return to the club for the 2004 season and beyond.

월요일에 25살이 된 김은 지난 5월에 아리조나로부터 힐렌브랜드와 트레이드된 이후 삭스에서  8승 5패  .318의 자책점에19번의 세이브 기회에서 16 세이브를 올렸다. 김은 시즌말에 운동장 안팎에서 일이 있었지만, 엡스타인은 ALCS에서 김은 2004년과 그 이후로 팀에 남을거라 공언을 했다.

     With closer Keith Foulke and set-up man Scott Williamson signed to pitch at the back end of the bullpen, Epstein left little doubt that Kim will be employed as a starter. Kim went 3-6 with a 3.38 ERA as a starter for the Sox last season, his won-lost record serving as a poor representation of how he performed.

     Said Epstein: ``With the bullpen that we have now, it gives us the luxury of using B.K. as a starter.''

마무리 풀크와 셋업맨 윌리암슨이 불펜의 끝쪽에서 던지기로 계약한 상황에서 엡스타인은 김이 선발로 기용될 거라는데 의심의 여지를 남겨놓지 않았다. 김은 지난 해 삭스에서 선발로 3승6패 3.38의 자책점을 기록했는데, 그의 승패기록은 그가 활약한 것을 잘 나타내지는 못한다.  엡스타인은  ‘현재의 우리의 불펜전력은, 우리로 하여금 BK 를 선발로 쓰는 여유를 누리게 한다.’고 말했다.

     As for Nixon, his one-year deal may be nothing more than a temporary agreement. The Sox and the player's agent, Ron Shapiro, have had productive talks on a three-year deal that would be worth in the neighborhood of $18 million to $20 million. A $20 million deal over three years would place Nixon's average annual salary through 2006 at $6.67 million, essentially what the player agreed to for the 2004 campaign.

닉슨에게 있어서 그의 1년계약은 잠정적인 합의에 지나지 않는다. 삭스와 그의 에이전트인 샤피로는 총액 18-2000만불에 상당하는 3년계약에 생산적인 대화를 가져왔다. 3년간 2000만불이면 닉슨의 2006년까지의 평균연봉이 667만불이 되는데, 그 액수는 지금 2004년에 합의한 금액이다. 

     In his best season as a pro, the 29-year-old Nixon finished 2003 with a .306 average, 28 home runs and 87 RBI. While he continued to have difficulty against left-handed pitchers - Nixon has hit 97 of his 106 career homers against right-handers - he abused right-handers, hitting .330 against them and slugging a whopping .635.

작년 프로로서 가장 훌륭한 성적을 보냈던, 29살의 닉슨은  .306타율, 28 홈런 89타점으로 2003년 시즌을 마쳤다. 그는 계속 왼손투수에게 약점을 보이는 반면, 오른손 투수에겐 그의 106개 통산홈런중 97개를 기록했고, 오른손 투수에게 .330의 타율과 .635의 좋은 장타율로 , 오른손 투수들을 맘껏 공략했다.

     Should the Sox reach a multiyear agreement with Nixon between now and spring training, they would rip up his one-year deal. ``We're going to continue to meet,'' Epstein said of the discussions. ``We got fairly close to a multiyear agreement and we're going to continue to pursue that.''

삭스가 닉슨과 스프링 트레이닝전에 3년안에 합의하면, 삭스는 분명히 이번 일년계약액을 조정할 것이다.(사치세때문에) ‘우리는 계속 만나기로 했다’고 엡스타인은 협상에 관해 얘기했다. ‘우린 상당히 다년계약에 접근했고, 계속 그딜을 추진할 것이다.'
