영의 새로운 것과 율법 조문의 묵은 것

롬7:6“이제는 우리가 얽매였던 것에 대하여 죽었으므로 율법에서 벗어났으니 이러므로 우리가 영의 새로운 것으로 섬길 것이요 율법 조문의 묵은 것으로 아니할지니라”

어려서 불의의 사고로 심한 꼽추가 되어 남모를 멸시와 아픔을 참으며 평생을 장애인으로 살다가 삶을 마치신 한 여전도사님이 계십니다. 전도사님은 장애인으로서 평생을 장애인을 위해 사역하실 때 자기주장을 하신 적이 없으셨습니다. 이와같이 자기주장이나 자기 뜻을 내세우는 일 없이, 온전히 주님께 자신을 바치고 주님에 의해 산 것보다 더 아름다운 삶이 없습니다.

천국 백성이 되는 복은 하나님의 은혜와 인간의 결단으로 이루어집니다. 하나님의 의롭다하심, 대속의 은혜, 하나님의 자녀로 인치심 등등 구원은 하나님 은혜로 받은 선물입니다. 하나님 은혜의 선물을 받은 사람에게는 육신의 생각이 아니라 영의 생각을 따라 살아가는 길이 열렸습니다. 날마다 육신의 생각을 버리고 영의 생각을 따라 살고자 결단합니다.

“우리가 육신에 있을 때에는 율법으로 말미암는 죄의 정욕이 우리 지체 중에 역사하여 우리로 사망을 위하여 열매를 맺게 하였더니” 롬7:5 인류의 조상인 아담의 후손으로 태어나서 살아가고 있는 인류는 아담 한 사람으로 말미암아 모두 정죄에 이르렀습니다. 우리가 육신에 있다는 것은 타락한 아담의 후손으로 살아가고 있음을 뜻합니다.

육신 곧 아담의 후손으로 살아가는 한 우리는 율법의 정죄로부터 벗어나지 못합니다. “율법의 행위로 그의 앞에 의롭다함을 얻을 육체가 없나니 율법으로는 죄를 깨달음이니라” 롬3:20 우리가 아무리 선한 일을 행할지라도 이미 타락한 본성에서 벗어날 길을 알지 못합니다. 첫 사람 흙에 속한 아담의 본성이 아닌 하늘에서 나신 둘째 사람의 본성이 필요합니다.

“성령께서 지난 시대를 통하여 사람들과 함께 보람없는 수고를 해 오신 것은 마음에 대한 하나님의 지배권, 바로 이것을 위함이었다. 예수께서 살아오셨고 또 이제 죽으려 하신 것은 이것을 위함이었다. -- 이것이 없었기에, 송축 받으실 주님이 제자들과 더불어 행하신 사역이 그토록 효과가 없었던 것이다.” (머레이 <그리스도의 영> 55쪽)

예수님과 동고동락하며 예수님께 배웠지만 제자들은 진정한 변화에 이르지 못했습니다. 육체를 통한 변화에는 한계가 있습니다. 주님께서 우리 마음 속에 들어오셔서 마음에 대한 하나님의 지배권을 가지고 우리 마음을 주장하실 때에 비로소 우리는 진정한 변화에 이릅니다. 변화는 우리 속에 계시는 주님에 의하여 시작됩니다.

“한 사람이 순종하지 아니함으로 많은 사람이 죄인 된 것 같이 한 사람이 순종하심으로 많은 사람이 의인이 되리라” 롬5:19 우리는 아무리 하나님께 순종하고자 해도 순종이 불가능한 타락한 존재입니다. 오직 우리 가운데 오신 예수님만이 우리로 하여금 온전한 순종에 이르게 하십니다. 우리를 의롭다 인쳐주신 주님은 또한 우리를 온전함으로 인도하십니다. 우리는 이래저래 평생을 주님께 빚진 자로 살아갑니다.

주님의 뜻이 나의 뜻이 되고 주님의 꿈이 나의 꿈이 되고 주님의 감정이 나의 감정이 되는 것은 나의 소원만으로 되는 것이 아닙니다. 내 안에 거하시는 주님에 의해서만 가능합니다. 나는 점점 작아지다가 마침내 사라지고 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사시는 삶이 될 때 내 자신은 마침내 온전히 주님의 것, 주님의 도구로 변합니다.

우리를 의롭다 인쳐주심은 우리 행위가 아니라 믿음으로 영접한 그리스도를 보고 인쳐주신 것입니다. 믿는 자는 자기 스스로 하나님을 섬기는 것이 아니라 자기 안에 계시는 그리스도를 통해서 그리스도에 의해서 하나님을 섬깁니다. 자신은 죽고 그리스도께서 사시는 삶이 되면 더 이상 율법조문의 묵은 것이 아니라 영의 새로운 것으로 곧 영으로 오신 예수님께서 살아서 섬기듯이 하나님 아버지를 섬기게 됩니다. 23. 6. 17 장기옥 목사 드림

In the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter

Rom.7:6“But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.”

When she was a baby, her mother missed her and fell to the ground. After this accident, she grew as a severe hunchback and breast. She suffered from many despise and pain since child. After graduating from theology college She served for disabled people in Church. I heard that when she argued with others, she always conceded herself to others. She had never her own opinion in front of others. Now she is in the bosom of God in Heaven. Like this, living without one’s own opinion before God and dedicating oneself to God is the most beautiful life.

The blessing to become the heavenly people consists of the grace of God and the resolution of human. Justification by God, the grace of redemption, sealing as the children of God and other salvation comes from God as His gift. Now the way to follow the spiritual thought and to reject the fleshly thought is opened to those who have received the gift of the grace of God. They resolute everyday to be led by the Spirit of God and to reject the fleshly thought.

“For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.” Rom.7:5 The humankind who are the descendants of Adam, the ancestor of humankind, are under the judgment of condemnation through Adam who sinned. The fact we are in the flesh means that we are living as the fallen descendants of Adam.

We do not know how to escape from the condemnation of the law as far as we live as the descendants of Adam, in the flesh. “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Rom.3:20 We can not get out of the fallen nature even if we behave incessantly good deeds. We need the new nature of the second man who is the Lord from heaven instead of the old nature of the first man from the earth.

“It was for this, God’s mastery within the heart, the Spirit had striven in vain with men through the past ages. It was for this Jesus had lived and was about to die. Without this the Father’s purpose and His own work would fail of their accomplishment. For want of this the fellowship of the Blessed Master with the disciples had effected so little.” (Murray, <The Spirit of Christ> Ch.6)

The fellowship with Jesus could not accomplish the purpose of the true transformation of His disciples. The fellowship through in flesh has its limit to be transformed. Only God’s mastery within the heart by dwelling in our inward is able to transform our nature truly. The true transformation begins only by the Lord who is dwelling in us.

“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” Rom.5:19 However hard we may try to obey God’s law, it is impossible for us to obey because we are totally fallen. Only Jesus who has come to us is able to make us to obey in perfection. The Lord who has sealed us with His righteousness also leads us into the perfect obedience. We are debtors for salvation and also live as debtors for the true transformation to the Lord.

That the will of the Lord may become my will, the dream of the Lord, my dream and the emotion of the Lord, my emotion can not be given only my wish. It is possible only by the Lord who dwells in me. When myself will be diminished less and less and at last will be disappeared, the Lord only will live in me. Then myself will totally become His instrument as the Lord’s.

God’s sealing us with His righteousness was made not by seeing our works but by seeing Christ who is dwelling in us. The believers serve God not by themselves but through Christ and by Christ. When we ourselves have been crucified and Christ lives in us, we may serve God in the newness of the Spirit who has come into us as living Jesus and not in the oldness of the letter. 17. June 2023
