▧ 나의 떠날 기약이 가까웠도다 - 디모데후서 4:6

디모데후서 4장 6절에서 바울사도가 사용한 '떠남'이라는 단어는 중요한 의미를 갖습니다. 그 단어는 "출범하는" 또는 "닻을 올리는"이라는 뜻이 있습니다. 그것은 또 바울이 "내가 그 두 사이에 끼였으니 떠나서 그리스도와 함께 있을 욕망을 가진 이것"(빌1:23)이라고 한숨을 쉬면서 다시 사용한 단어이기도 합니다.

"떠남"은 해상 용어인데 출항을 의미합니다. 닻을 올리고 이 세상에 우리를 붙들어 매는 밧줄을 풀고 항해에 나서는 것입니다. 그것은 죽음에 대한 멋진 은유입니다.

구주께서 길을 인도하실 때
두려운 여행이라고 말하지 말라
그것은 단지 음침한 그늘을 지나
영원의 땅에 도달하는 여행이 되리니

하나님을 두려워하는 자는 죽음을 두려워할 필요가 없다.

디모데후서 4:1-8

[1] 하나님 앞과 산 자와 죽은 자를 심판하실 그리스도 예수 앞에서 그의 나타나실 것과 그의 나라를 두고 엄히 명하노니
[2] 너는 말씀을 전파하라 때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 항상 힘쓰라 범사에 오래 참음과 가르침으로 경책하며 경계하며 권하라
[3] 때가 이르리니 사람이 바른 교훈을 받지 아니하며 귀가 가려워서 자기의 사욕을 좇을 스승을 많이 두고
[4] 또 그 귀를 진리에서 돌이켜 허탄한 이야기를 좇으리라
[5] 그러나 너는 모든 일에 근신하여 고난을 받으며 전도인의 일을 하며 네 직무를 다하라
[6] 관제와 같이 벌써 내가 부음이 되고 나의 떠날 기약이 가까웠도다
[7] 내가 선한 싸움을 싸우고 나의 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지켰으니
[8] 이제 후로는 나를 위하여 의의 면류관이 예비되었으므로 주 곧 의로우신 재판장이 그 날에 내게 주실 것이니 내게만 아니라 주의 나타나심을 사모하는 모든 자에게니라

▧ The time of my departure is at hand. - 2 Timothy 4:6

Paul's word departure in 2 Timothy 4:6 is freighted with significance. It means "loosing" or "unmooring." It's a word he uses again when he sighs, "I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ"(Phil.1:23).

Departure is a nautical term that suggests "shipping out"-weighing anchor, slipping the lines that tether us to this world and getting underway. It's a marvelous metaphor for dying.

For believers in Christ, death is not an end but a beginning. It means leaving this old world behind and getting to a better place, completing the purpose for which we were made. It's a time for joy and excitement and a hearty "Bon Voyage!"

All voyages, however, are fraught with uncertainty, especially those that pass through waters never sailed before. We don't fear death so much as we do the passage. Who knows what dangers lie ahead?

But the journey is not uncharted. One has taken it before us, and He has returned to bring us safely through. Although we pass through the valley of the shadow of death, God is with us all the way(Ps.23:4). His hands are on the helm as He guides us to the heavenly haven He has prepared for us(John14:1-3). - David H. Roper

Those who fear God need not fear death.

2 Timothy 4:1-8

[1] In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
[2] Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.
[3] For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
[4] They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
[5] But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
[6] For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure.
[7] I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
[8] Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
