One day the bird met a friend in the woods. He told his friends about his happy life. but the friend laughed at him. "You are a fool,"he said. "You work very hard, but the mouse and the sausage have easy lives. They only work a few hours each day. You work many hours."
The next day there was trouble. The bird said, "I`ll not go to the forest today. I am not a fool. today I will stay home and make the fire. Sausage, you must go and find the firewood. And mouse, you must do the cooking."
So the sausage went to the woods, the little bird made the fire and the mouse cooked. That night the bird and the mouse waited and waited and waited. But the sausage did not return. So the bird flew out of the house. He went to find the sausage. But he could not find him. Then he met a dog.
"I ate the sausage,"said the dog.
"You ate the sausage?" said the bird. "why did you do such a terrible thing?"
"I did it because I thought the sausage was a liar and a thief. He said he was looking for firewood. but you, bird, are the firewood gatherer. The sausage always works at home. I thought this sausage was a thief and a liar. So I ate him.
"Oh, what a terrible mistake," said the bird. "that sausage was a real sausage. He was not a liar and thief. He and I exchanged jobs. That is why he came to the woods."
The bird went home. He told the mouse about the poor sausage. They were both very sad. Then the mouse went into the kitchen. He began to cook dinner. But he did not understand cooking. He fell into a pot of hot soup and drowned. The bird flew into the kitchen. He bumped into a pot of cooking oil. It fell into the fire. The fire got bigger and bigger. Soon all the kitchen was on fire! The bird flew to the well. He tried to get some water. But he was too excited. he hit his head on the well. He fell into the well and died. And that was the end of the house of the mouse, the bird and the sausage.
This story teaches us a lesson about life. First, don't be lazy or selfish. And do only the job you know. Do the job you understand.
